Cleverly revised iSight indicator in the new Core 2 Duo MacBook Pros

Apple has removed the obvious green "online" indicator dot and accompanying hole that used to be just to the right of the iSight lens hole on the MacBook Pro and replaced it with a subtle integrated green LED just under the surface of the bezel that only appears when the iSight is engaged.
Nice touch. It's tiny little things like this that really set Apple apart when it comes to product design. Almost makes you want to give them a pass on some of the far more serious quality control issues they're having these days...
More pics on nobilog.
Thanks, Dane!

It's a shame they didn't do this with the MacBooks. A white computer shows that little black hole more than an aluminium computer.

I think it's a real nice touch that trully sets Apple apart from other PC makers, but back your comment, Stephen, the macbook is white, but it does have the two holes... one for the camera indicator and one for the mic. In my opinion I think it's fine for Apple to keep the two little holes as they are symetric this way, but then again they could always hide both :D

Did the core duo iMacs have the hole? My C2D iMac doesn't have a hole, it's underneath the surface.

the close up looks like it works the same way as turn signals that shine through some cars left and right mirrors

Wow, now if only they can make a 2-button mouse that doesn't sound like a 300 year old rocking chair when you click on it and Apple is destined for success. That and a first generation product that doesn't make all its users regret buying it.

That's pretty cool, but where did the microphone hole (the left one) go?

Nice, but a look at the Apple Store's top sellers shows a marked absence of the MBP.
Has Apple lost some customers somewhere?

Uh, the mic has always been under the left speaker. Didn't anyone know that?

Mark,
The Core Duo iMacs only have a hole for the microphone. The LED is hidden just like the sleep light.

if you go to apple's site about the isight in the MBP it has a funny looking animation about this. i saw it and thought that something about it looked different then the MBP CDs i have used.

Um, excusing Apple for lack of QC because they tweaked the design? I don't think so.

Hasn't this been in Macs in general for a while now? I know my G5 iSight does that and the sleep light on the mac mini and the iMac do that as well (as far I know, powerbooks may have done that too).

That's nice, but who the Hell cares? I can't believe people get excited over minutiae like this.

Yeah product design schmoduct design. I can be an artist too but if what I makes is reliable as a LADA then your wave is gonna crash.
Apple HAS to pick up the slack on reliability. I'm on my 3rd MacBook and in total have 10 replaced new MacBook's in my circle of friends.
In the hardware end of things Apple should hope they will be lucky enough to pull out of this rut or everyone is in for a massive fall from the clouds.
You need 2 to tango. Software and Hardware to work together.
No in the middle.
