MacBook With Intel Core 2 Duo Processors

It had to happen sooner or later, Apple has released new MacBooks making my MacBook obsolete. The newest member of the Apple portable family comes in three flavors: white 1.83 GHz and 2.0 GHz, and black 2.0 GHz. All three sport the Core 2 Duo Intel processor which Apple claims gives these suckers up to a 25% boost over the previous MacBooks. The top of the line model also features a gig of RAM standard (though in two DIMMs), a double layer SuperDrive, and 4MB shared L2 cache (as opposed to 2MB in the other models). And yes, the glossy screen is still the only screen option on these bad boys.

Pricing starts at $1,099.

I bought one of this new MacBooks with the new intel core 2 duo. I like it so far and everything works well. But after running into so many websites describing the problems that this machines have had I'm kind of skeptic. Everything from the discoloration to melting magsafe power adapters. What REALLY bothers me is the screen. The viewing angles are horrible. Even just by leaving my head in one place and dragging an open window from top to bottom of the screen I can see the "grays" changing from yellow to red. IS THERE SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY SCREEN??? Or are this screens just like this???. The screen is nice and bright though. And its even all across.... Anyone????

Got my new black MacBook yesterday. Installed Bootcamp/WinXP and the wireless card is indeed an 802.11n. It's listed as an Atheros ar5008.

"The AR5008 solutions, demonstrated earlier this month at the 2006 Consumer Electronics Show (CES), are the first to be based on the draft 802.11n specification confirmed last week by the IEEE."

I just got Half-Life 2 installed so we'll see how it does.

I'm curious...
My uncle is going to France this week, and I wanted to know if its (MacBook) keyboard comes with a French-layout or an international layout.

And is it true I can switch between interface languages without having to buy a localized license or formatting?

I've been using Macs for some time (from crashing PageMaker in MacOS 7.? with a 7200 to editing videos in FinalCutPro 5 in PowerMacsG5), but never thought its price-tag matched its performance (die PowerPC-fanboys), and I guess I'm ready to start the switch.

What I really Hate about this is that I just got my New Macbook on Sunday and now I could have gotten a dual layer super drive 80gigs and 1gig of ram for the same price.

@Remi

Get going now to return it. Apple only give you 14 days to return ANYTHING. Laptops maybe 30 days different -- but I would wait.

Here in Canada the 'black tax' is still $200. The kicker is that the black model comes with a 120GB hard disk whereas the white model comes with an 80GB hard disk. The upgrade from 80GB to 120GB is $180 so the price difference is really only $20. That's more reasonable.

Has anyone noticed that the new Macbook on the Apple site shows a screen with iPhoto on it. It doesn't look like iPhoto but it is and it look sweet.

Let's look at the 32-bit Intel lifespan here. PowerPC had it's go for a few years. Now that 64-bit Intel chips are on the market, with no forseeable jump to 128 or something equally ridiculous in sight, I imagine that we'll be seeing this platform for another few years at least. With the 32-bit Intel processor gracing the Mac-scape for less than a year on all but the Mini, how much long-term support are we really going to see for it?
