MacBook With Intel Core 2 Duo Processors

It had to happen sooner or later, Apple has released new MacBooks making my MacBook obsolete. The newest member of the Apple portable family comes in three flavors: white 1.83 GHz and 2.0 GHz, and black 2.0 GHz. All three sport the Core 2 Duo Intel processor which Apple claims gives these suckers up to a 25% boost over the previous MacBooks. The top of the line model also features a gig of RAM standard (though in two DIMMs), a double layer SuperDrive, and 4MB shared L2 cache (as opposed to 2MB in the other models). And yes, the glossy screen is still the only screen option on these bad boys.
Pricing starts at $1,099.

another good thing, they are providing the 85W adapter as well instead of the 60. worth noting is that they've yet to update their notes but in the specs table it is indicated as 85.

i forgot to mention. it is nice that Apple doesn't limit the BTO of 200 GB to the pro series. the macbook is also provided that option.

Grrrr ... dual layer SuperDrive.
I can live with the speed bump making my BlackBook obsolete but the dual layer drive just rubs salt in.

@ cheerful:
They said 85W in the optional accessories, but in the part above the table it says that the adapter is 60W.
@ Scott:
The white 2.0 Ghz model also contains 4MB of L2 cache. And another good thing is the black model comes with a 120GB hard drive!

Is the use of a Li-Poly battery new? I thought my MacBook still has a Li-Ion.
The 85W adapter is a good move; does this mean my AC adapter will no longer scream like a banshee when it's charging and in use at the same time?

What are the differences between new and old macbooks? Only the processor?

wacky, indeed. i read that, but i ain't sure if it meant it came with it or extras. but i gathered it comes with it as u see the bottom ... there're 2 more things listed: configure to order + accessories ... (which doesn't list everything ... lol)
hence the confusion. but given apple's way of thoughts, i tend to agree with u more though haha. my wishful thinking of 85W

but the more i look at it, the more i think it should be 85W cause it seems more logical that apple lists what comes in the box.

Hmm.. So now if I get my stained white macbook sent in for repairs, will they replace it with one of these new core 2 duo's or will they give an old one? BTW, where I live (India), Apple only does replacements.

I bought a Macbook about 3 weeks ago, d'oh! To be fair, my lowly Core Duo is still plenty fast enough, and I upgraded the memory to 1GB.

I think now because of the switch to intel, apple customers need to use to the fact that small incremental updates like this are going to be more and more common and their latest purchase is going to have a shorter shelf life

Why is the Apple Store still down?

Now you know how I felt when my Macbook Pro was no longer as Pro as it used to be when the new ones got the Core 2 Duo. Now they run 64bit while I am churning along at 32bit processing. The saddness....

The cheap one, 1.83GHz model, has only 2MB L2 cache. So, it should mean it's %0 faster then older Core Duo MacBook. Right?

Just my luck. I bought one on Monday!
Well, it is a refurb, but still.
Anyone know if you can return refurbs?
Ah, well, there wouldn't be any refurb Core2Duo Macbooks for a while anyway.
But I really could use that DL superdrive and extra RAM.

@Reid
moral of the story, dont buy an apple product after it's been out for a long time.. you're bound to regret it real quick :p

Man, I just bought a MacBook a week and a half ago, could I go back to the store and replace mine with the new Duo 2? what's apple's policy on that?
