WWDC early registration extended to May 11

Alright all you procrastinating Apple Devs, the Mothership has decided to look kindly upon your laziness and has extended the early registration for this year's WWDC until May 11th (it was supposed to close on April 27th). So you have another week and a half to save $300 on a ticket. Of course, it's still going to run you $1295, but considering you've waited this long, consider it more like they're paying you to go!

I can't help but wonder whether this move was prompted by lower than expected early registrations. It's hard to imagine, though, that the full unveiling of Leopard won't be a banner event.

I think Doug Stewart is right with reason #1. Why? Because they do this every year....

Another option -- the one I complained loudly to the folks at 'the mothership' about -- is the fact that they end up compressing two instances of the conference into one budget year (July to June, for those of us running on FY budgets, like most in the public, nonprofit, and education sectors). If you have a fixed travel and training budget, it makes it hard to justify. I suspect they'll lose a number of would-be attendees, as a result.

Having planned conferences, there could be two other reasons for the extension.

1) Many times the extension was planned all along. because it pushes some people who thought they missed the early bird rate to get registered instead of waiting until the final day.

2) They had to adjust because last years conf was in August and this one is 2 months earlier.
