OS X 10.4.10 causes audio pops in some Macs

Well of course I would find this right after I updated. I normally wait a bit after Apple System Updates to see if any problems develop among those of you who just can't wait to hit that update button. According to this thread over at the Apple Support forums, quite a few users are reporting problems with the recent 10.4.10 update. Apparently some folks are hearing snaps and pops in their audio playback after installing the update. Perusing the thread seems to indicate that most of the problems are on Intel Macs with external speakers. So if you haven't updated yet, you may want to wait a few days to see how this one develops.

I have just set up....or I guess the truth is iDISK has set itself up on my new MacBook and know either 10.4.10 - iDisk or ??? has lost track of my External hard drive....after a lot of turning off and on it comes up but doesn't stay after a reboot....any thoughts, help or fixes would be VERY appreciated....
I am getting so disappointed by YOU and ME be the quality control experts for new software...ADOBE and APPLE rush to bring out the best and brightest new stuff but cripple our machines while they sort out the bugs....what ever happened the caveat of BETA software....tryer beware....not public released yet...BETA only?

Thanks, for any help offered. Colin

Had the same problem. Found this in discussions on Apple:

"If you go into Utilities, click on Audio MIDI Setup. Select Built-in Output. You'll see in the bottom left corner a menu entitled "format" with 44100.00 Hz or the like. Change it to something else, then change to back to the original output. This should fix it until you reboot. You will need to repeat with each restart. Annoying, but it seems to be a temporary fix."

So far, it's working for me.

My biggest problem with the update is that my Behringer FireWire FCA-202 no longer seems to be supported. So no more recording Garageband audio, until this gets fixed!

MxSix:

Interestingly, I was poking at this and, though it didn't fix my issue (admittedly I use either the internal speakers or bluetooth for audio so the clicks aren't a big deal) I did notice they occur with the internal speakers too when switching between options in the MIDI panel (sounds like the same click), but they need to be maxed out to be heard as a soft, faint click. I can't help but wonder if this issue occurs with them normally, but it's so quite it's unnoticeable.

I get the pop (sounds more like a thud) on external speakers on my core duo black macbook ever since installing the update.

It happens seemingly at random, even when nothing is playing.

I get the pops whenever there's a system alert or growl notification with sound. It doesn't seem to happen when playing audio through iTunes, Quicktime, or DVD Player.

So...does this problem appear only after installing the delta installer? Has anyone verified the problem after installing the combo installer?

I've noticed this, it happened even when my macbook pro was on mute with external speakers plugged in

Here is what fixed it for me that Mr Spork recommended:

"I have had some popping in my audio before and I fixed that by opening Audio MIDI setup and re-selecting the Audio Output format Hz or bitrate then back again. The popping stopped immediately in iTunes via both analogue and digital connections."
