Milwaukee, Tulsa Apple Stores: Your reports

Apple opened two retail stores this weekend; one it Milwaukee, Wisc. and another in Tulsa, OK. As usual, we asked any TUAW operatives who may have attended to share their reports and/or pictures. So, did you go, and if you did, how was it? Let us know in the comments. Here's hoping you scored a T-shirt, the Opening Day Contest's grand prize and, dare we say it? An iPhone!

I just noticed that Apple has a "Check Stock" feature on the Online Store (linked below) so you can see if you'll be able to get an iPhone the next day.

The problem? See if you can get an iPhone tomorrow in Wisconsin. Oh, it isn't in the drop-down box. I just wanted to see if I could get one for a friend, I don't want one. Still disappointing and strange, considering the second in the state opened today.

I went to the new Bayshore Store in Milwaukee at around 8:30 pm after some of the hype had died down. The store itself is really nice. They imported Italian stone floors and the walls are made out of Japanese steel. They also don't have any cash registers, everyone is remote. This frees up some space to walk around. They had a small army working the store tonight, understandably, but once the new novelty wears off it's going to be an awesome place to shop.

I was about # 200 in line, had a couple of people cut in front of us do to Mall Security moving the line around a bit, but no biggie. It moved fairly quickly. I almost bent over and kissed the floor as I walked it, but decided too many foot had stepped there before me. WE FINALLY HAVE AN APPLE STORE! YEAH! It's been too long.

Here are some photos I took as I approached my turn:

I was at the Milwaukee Opening...it was pretty low key. I got in line about 6:15 and I was # 135 or something (they had some crazy employee counting). I got in by 7:30 got to a phone pretty quick, played, got a shirt and left. I really really wanted to like the iPhone, but it just didn't do it for me. I felt like I had worn off the novelty in the 10 minutes I played. I hope it does well, because I'll be more interested once it hits 3G. In the meantime, though, I'm holding off, I think.

I'm here at the original milwaukee apple store. The line starts in the parking lot here at the mall. I'd say there's about 50 people waiting in line. Pretty low key right now. I've been here a good hour and only 3 ppl have come behind me.
