OS X 10.4.10 update causing widespread wifi problems?
We already mentioned the audio bug that popped up with the OS X 10.4.10 update (since hopefully corrected). Now reader Josh writes in to say that 10.4.10 also introduced a nasty wifi bug that's apparently causing both repeated connection loss and even kernel panics for a lot of users. There's a long thread on the Apple discussions boards, and independent confirmations from around the macweb. The main workaround so far is to go wired (which is hardly a workaround if you ask me). If you haven't thus far updated, it would probably be a good idea to hold off yet again until Apple can get this fixed. How many of you are experiencing problems?

hellfire i've experienced frequent, unending, constant network disconnects (hardwired & wifi) frequent multiple connections failures lasting from several seconds to several minutes, multiple unending page load stalls (safari is crap), spinning beach balls -- all have been HORRIBLE since upgrading beyond 10.3.9 -- it got worse after going beyond 10.4.2 -- it's a piece of sh*t problem that apple has not fixed for 3 to 5 years -- and in fact has made worse -- because they are lazy @ss coders and basically don't give a flying flip about their customers once they have you. i don't give a crap if it looks pretty if it's a piece of unreliable crap that drops or can't hold an internet connection, disconnects on every page load, stalls stutters spins takes freekin forever

It was returned faulty with a non functioning DVD drive. It went in for a further repair and when return would repeatedly KP. The 'Genius' at the Mac Store reported this was due to a 3rd party RAM problem. The RAM was swapped for 'official' Apple RAM, and guess what..... the problem persists. In the end, I formatted the HDD and re-installed the original OS. All is now fine. Don't try updating your system software!!
September 05 2007 at 7:10 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have had both network problems and Safari problems since bringing all our computers up to OS 10.4.10.
We have two iMac G3s, a G4 tower with a 1.5 GHz processor upgrade, and two Intel machines: MacBook 1.83 G/13.3" and iMac 17"/1.83 G. We use a Linksys Wireless G router.
I am having trouble with activities on one computer bumping others offline, and have to keep rebooting the router. This especially happens when I have the MacBook using Airport to connect to Internet and LAN.
Also, have experienced problems with Safari not drawing all the buttons on two different airline ticketing sites, so that you cannot proceed to transaction after selecting departure and return flights. Using Reset command does not solve problem.
All computers are current according to Software Update and settings for router, and Airport are correct according to Linksys.
Any solutions out there?
The problem is not just with 10.4.10. We have an IMac on 10.4.8 and a new MacBook running 10.4.9, and both are having the same problem. The iMac worked perfectly on Airport until recently -- I think the deterioration coincided with the last software update. Apple has a workaround (which does not solve the problem) on its support page, referring to OS 10.4.8. That means there have been two system updates since they became aware of the issue, and it has still not been solved. How I miss my recently deceased PB with 10.3.9!

August 19 2007 at 6:16 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI forgot about the other thing: taking forever to shut down! the other laptop I use is a Titanium Mac, and that one simply refuses to shut down; lately I started to simply force shut it down..like a PC..God forbid! Could it be due to the same bug in the "new & improved" softawre ? Yes, I faithfully downloaded and installed all their 'updates', including one for the iTunes, that had the effect of...putting restricted labels (in RED, no less!) for..obscene content !! I am talking about censorship in the worst way, especially since the labeled songs were purely INSTRUMENTAL (chinese folkloric music, and Latin Christian songs from the Middle Ages!!. I wrote to Apple about this, but nobody bothered to respond !..
August 18 2007 at 4:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHallelujah! I thought I was the only one having connectivity problems! I have this new Mac PowerBook (12 in) that I was pretty happy with, up until..the second part of June. I thought it was my DSL modem at first; I called ATT&T, they brought in a new modem, but the disconnects and "die-off"s coninued to date! Unfortunately I DID downoad the latest "update", and this whole mess reminds me of the reason why I hated using Windows: unreliability! I hate the idea that Macs are slowly sliding that way too... Yes, I am being disconnected in the middle of a task, or I get a very week connection (my "wired computer" is only one room away-no problem with that one;
After it goes to sleep, it loses the connection, so when I try to wake it up, it tells me taht I have "no Internet connection". Yjis is VERY frustrating! How soon do you suppose there'll be a "patch" ?! (I hate "patches" ! I have been patching away at my Toshiba for ages! I SAY IF SOMETHING IS DONE RIGHT FROM THE BEGINNING ONE SHOULD NEED NO BLOODY 'PATCHES'...
Hi!
over here no problems, i am using macbook core 2 duo. what i suggest is update the .10 but dont update the airport one...the time that update was out, there where lot of problem. i had to do a archive and instal and had dont all the update except the latest airport update
Since I went to 4.10 my wifi stops uploading in mid stream A LOT. If I turn airport off and then back on it will load correctly. It is a real pain! It does this whether I am using battery or am plugged in to the AC adapter. Hope Apple fixes the bug.
