DeskLickr

DeskLickr is a fantastically well named app that epitomizes all that is right with Mac development. Simply it downloads a photo from Flickr and sets it as your Mac's desktop. You can tell DeskLickr to limit itself to a certain Flickrstream, tag, or group.

DeskLickr will randomly select Desktop images for you, and if you don't like it you can tell the app to never use that image again. DeskLickr can be set to automatically select images, or you can manually get a new image. DeskLickr displays a windows, which you can close, with a link to the photo on Flickr and tells you who took the picture (as seen to the left).

Yes, but Flickr is free. And there are PLENTY of excellent desktoppable (is that a word? Well, it is now.) photos on Flickr. The idea here is to point Desklickr at a group of photos rather than simply let it pull down any old picture. If the dev is reading, maybe there should be an option to point it at the user's Flickr favourites? That way you could control what shows up on your computer.

I recommend checking out 日本語flick'r (Nihongo Flickr) - http://www.flickr.com/groups/51035577168@N01/

I've gotten some amazing wallpapers out of that group. In fact, my current desktops are both culled from that group.

Desktoptopia is great if you aren't interested in actively hunting for your own wallpaper, but it's far too expensive for me.

The problem is that most of the photos don't make great desktops. I prefer Desktoptopia (http://www.desktoptopia.com).
