iTunes 7.4: A First Look
Gallery: iTunes 7.4
There's surprisingly little to report about the iTunes 7.4 update. Some
Some readers have reported that iTunes 7.4 installation reset their preferences. You may want to check your Shopping Cart/1-Click purchase options to make sure they haven't been overwritten. Mine were fine.
Notice any other changes to iTunes? Let us know in the comments.

You forgot to highlight the closed captioning features. Very handy for accessibility.

The first item I wanted to check out - is halfway there. iTunes store access via my AppleTV.
Going into setting in the AppleTV menu, there is a section for iTunes Store, now. You set the country. The default was - Canada!
After I did that, I went to the Music menu - and there were 2 new choices: iTunes music and iTunes music videos. No choice to buy anything [yet]; but, it's looks like we're getting close.

In album view you can rate the albums which I have been waiting for. It's a great UI.
Also you have the option of playing movies and music videos in the iTunes window which I prefer.

You can now play videos full-screen on a display other than the one that the iTunes main window is located on. Yay!

Among the many small things, I particularly enjoyed the new way iTunes let you handle lists in iPod sync. Now it uses the same hierarchical folder structure you use in iTunes, no longer the flat one of the old iTunes.
When you have accumulated a complex list structure in iTunes, this is really a blessing...

Any chance this new version improves the "multiple library syncing" options? i.e. if I sync podcasts on one computer, then music on another, my podcasts are wiped. See here for more details: http://www.iphonetopic.com/iphone/sync-strategies.php

Why did Apple change the sort order for Artists, and the sort order for Podcasts with "The" at the beginning of their titles, yet not offer a firmware update for the iPods themselves to have the same sort order?
All my Podcasts with "The" at the beginning now sort properly in iTunes, but are still all sorted by the letter T on the iPod. Inconsistent and sloppy Apple.
Am I the only one who noticed this?

Rob: Interestingly, my 5th-gen iPod *does* sort things the same way as iTunes. Orbital's "The Middle of Nowhere" gets sorted between "In Sides" and "Orbital II" on my iPod, whereas it was sorted after "Orbital II" before I installed iTunes 7.3.

Another change is that there is no longer an Other box in the iPhone capacity area

...Wait, I take that back. I just checked my iPod again, and now "The Middle of Nowhere" is sorting after "Orbital II" again... yet I recall that when I had first installed iTunes 7.3 and synced my iPod, I was thrown off because the order was as I had specified in comment 10. How weird!

@codeman38: I am actually really more concerned with podcasts, because I always hated the fact that podcasts starting with "the" sorted to T. They fix it in iTunes but not on the iPod? WTF?
Seems like they have all but abandoned firmware updates for iPods. I remember updating my 4G iPod at least three or four times, but my 5G hasn't gotten any updates.

@Rob: I think you're right. Many of the advancements in the iPod over the years have not been hardware-related, but Apple has declined to offer the updated software features to owners of previous models, so they can only get the benefits by buying newer hardware. But notice that stupid things like the volume-limiting software ARE included in firmware updates. Anything that takes AWAY features is OK, but God forbid we get new ones without buying a whole new iPod.

The Info tab on iPhone now has an option to add contacts to a certain group when added on the go
...and the Music Tab allows you to select entire playlist folders instead of manually clicking all playlists

The three things I noticed:
1.) "Get Info" on a video (preferably one that you've added yourself), you'll see that there is a new tab labeled "Sorting" where you can change the video kind between TV Show, Movie, and Music Video. Now when you add a converted TV show into iTunes you can actually make it show up in the TV Show section!
2.) Also in the "Get Info" window, there are "Previous" and Next" buttons so you don't have to close the Get Info window when editing a large amount of songs at the same time.
3.) Finally, IF you have playlists in folders, it is now shown that way under the "Sync Selected Playlists" tab when you have an iPhone connected (and probably an iPod too).
