It looks like Apple has unleashed another new iTunes feature tonight, in addition to ringtones. Now when you search the iTunes Store using iTunes 7.4.1 (haven't tried it in an older version) the search offers up some auto complete options. As you can see above I was searching for They Might Be Giants and like magic iTunes knew.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

It'd be even better if it did this when searching my own files.

Coo, but does it work with everything? Will it search podcasts and tv shows, or only their music library?

Not sure I like that. I know it's useful in some senses, but doesn't the drop-down feel tacky and (dare I say it) "windows-like"?

OK, right, it does work in 7.4, so why the update to 7.4.1? Anything else going on, or is it just a security thing?

It only does it in the iTunes store as far as I can see, at least in 7.4.

Too bad they can't get Safari to do that w/o a 3rd party plugin! Not a big deal until Leopard.

Great, almost. It doesn't work for your library. Being able to rate albums is brilliant for me. But why can you only do it in Album View and not in Cover Flow? And how come they haven't updated Cover Flow in iTunes to work like it does on the iPhone and iPod Touch, where you click it and it flips to get a track listing...? If they did this you could stay in Cover Flow mode and it would be far more than simply a 'pretty' way to play music.
Seems it's been a while since iTunes had a proper update.

Last night I could navigate the store just fine, but I couldn't search for anything. Today the search auto completes. Nice!

This also works in the new WiFi Store, where it makes sense to save on keystrokes. I wonder if Apple made this to improve the WiFi Store first and then added it to iTunes.

@Billy (#8): 7.4.1 came out about a day after 7.4.1, because people had discovered a very simple workaround for getting user-created ringtones (ie. not from the iTunes Store) on the iPhone that involved changing the file extension. A lot of people don't like the idea of paying *again* for a song they already bought.

Hi cool BUT!!!!! I see that apple removes from itunes search the option to search Genre!!!!! I have organizated my music by genre so! and now I cant search by Genre with ALL search!
I have it of that way by example:
Jazz: Bebop
Jazz: Free
Jazz: Smooth
Jazz: Electronic
SO! WHEN I PUT IN SEARCH: Jazz: (yeah with 2points : ) itunes show me just the jazz albums and it was perfect!!
NOW WHEN I PUT Jazz: DONT APPEAR NATHING, WHY REMOVE THE GENRE SEARCH
PLAESE IF ANYBODY KNOW... EVERYTHING LET ME KNOW!
