New Leopard update as release date nears
With more than a month to go before Leopard's release, Apple seeded a large update (6.5GB) to ADC members on Friday, AppleInsider reports. There are only two major issues left in this build. First, the Archive and Install procedure seems to be failing on PPC-based machines, which is a biggie. The second issue wasn't clearly defined, but involves users with HP printers connected to their Macs (as well as users upgrading from a Tiger install that included an HP printer). At this point, Apple is suggesting developers do a custom install that excludes the HP drivers. That sounds like a pain to me, but I'm sure it will be fixed before October.
One final note: It looks like Leopard's iCal dock icon displays the proper date at all times! The dozen or so people who have clamored for this may rejoice.

All updates are 6.5 GB. They're .dmgs which you burn and install just like you will when leopard releases.

Nice dig about the broken iCal icon in Tiger. Judging from the downloads page for iConiCal at VersionTracker http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32718 , it looks to be more than 12, but is actually thousands of users who want this fixed! That being said, I don't know how many actually filed a report with Apple.

Hey that dock icon might now have been a huge issue, but it really was frustrating not to be able to look in your dock and see what date it was while being so tempted to do so.
I'm glad they fixed this, not because it drove me insane but because it's such a cosmetic issue they could have easily left it alone. By fixing it, it shows they really do care about the fine polish of their OS. One more reason my room is filled with white plastic and anodized aluminum...

So True BdeRWest! Leopard is NOT a features OS from what i have seen, it's a 'culmination' OS, where everything comes together. Tiger has been added onto, by Apple, on so many occasions, with things like FrontRow. Leopard is all about the 'polish' and making it all work, and look excellent!

It makes sense for leopard to be the final touch on the OS X series... as the move on to OS 11, they have to have a very solid base to build up on. Instead of implementing many new features that teeters and totters.

There are a lot more issues than just two. There are hundreds of bugs open at Radar. I don't know why you are even bothering mentioning what the two issues in this builds seed notes were, especially with stuff like "I hope they fix it by October". These are just temporary issues with this specific build. They didn't have goofed up HP drivers in any previous builds. I imagine 9a560 internally had both of these gone. Real bugs don't go in those notes.

The second one sounds more like an HP issue than an Apple one. But I agree with the posters above that this is a release for polishing. I'm hoping Leopard Server, Xsan 2.0 and Leopard client will fix my Xsan woes. Xsan is so damn fussy right now. It doesn't "just work" like every other Apple application.

As a user with a PPC Mac and an HP printer connected to it I'm hoping that Apple resolves this issue before ship date and don't just ignore it. Don't want to be surprised when I try to upgrade "old faithful" since I was planning on squeezing just a bit more use out of this machine that will only be 2 years old then.
Unlike some fortunate folks out there I can't just go buy the latest and greatest...

Sorry ipodrulz, but it doesn't make sense for this to be the last of the OS X series, and besides, we already know there are at least two more coming, cougar and lynx.

if anyone here has windows and wants a dock that looks like leopard, which iCal icon displays the correct date and when rolled on displays the time... check this dock out, it's the best out there.

@10: I bet the icon size is due to dock magnification...

The calendar icon is just the start.
Safari's compass needle now points towards North as you move your MacBook.
The Address Book icon gets thicker and more ragged with the more contacts you add, and Mail shows the species of owl that will be delivering your letter through the series of tubes. (It was still an eagle in early builds, but that was just to be patriotic.)
And through a clever use of the temperature sensors, a barometric array allows the new "Weather 1.0" icon to display an accurate forecast of climatic conditions. Sort of like the iPhoto icon, but without so many endless sunsets.

#15: LOL Reg. You neglected to mention that the Dashboard icon accumulates dust and coffee-cup rings the longer you go between restarts. :-)

I have a PPC Mac connected to an HP printer, and my birthday is July 17th. I'm having second thoughts about upgrading. :)

Apple has installed mood ring technology sensors on the wrist rests; the finder icon's facial expression changes based on your mood.
