well, on my two week old macbook pro, my battery life was unchanged but after installing this update, my fan started to run permanently at speeds upwards of 4330 rpm permanently. When the battery is taken out, the fans return to normal speeds of approx 2700rpm though the core temperature doesn't change!
Some of you may think "he's dreamin'" but I've been through everything else and read everything online about fan running issues - the battery update was the only change and when the battery comes out, the fans stop.
I'm stuck with a heavily overpriced portable desktop computer instead of the laptop i thought I was buying until someone at Apple sorts this shit out.

They issued the last one around mid-August. I thought it would fix my "prior" issues I was having lately, like 20 minutes on battery. It was ridiculous.I hope this update makes due...only 143 cycles on the battery and before this update the health was at 43%!

I cant believe it I installed this update this morning and I could not reboot at all... called apple been 40 minute trying to boot the computer in every possible way, no success... Last thing I tried was connect the firewire to my iMac and voila it booted. Had to reboot this afternoon because finder would not respond and same story. I was able to boot only with a firewire disk attached!

It is a bit weird...

How do I delete this thing again?

i was hoping this update would fix my random power downs that my macbook pro likes to dish out to me when it doesn't get power from the wall.
lot's of people are having the same problem as me

i installed it and restarted on wall power like i was told, and needless to say, the same thing still happens.
only now, my fans are running like crazy and osx doesnt even recognize the fact that i have a battery in my computer..

neat.

Wow, another interesting note from that link:

* Battery is not recognized causing an “X” to appear in the battery icon in the Finder menu bar.

The same weekend I called about my 20-minute-battery, I went home to help my mom pick out her first MacBook. When we got it home, it was sporadically displaying the X indicator, which I'd never seen. Called Apple support, and the guy there was baffled as well, and sent out a replacement. DAYUM, them's some effed batteries!

I went from a full charge capacity of 5480 to 5604.

I'm on cycle count ~35 from a new battery that was replaced a month or two ago because of the 20 minute battery issue.

All in a day's work. ...and by "work" I mean leaving comments on TUAW.

Any other reports on how the update software is affecting relatively new batteries?

update #3 from me:

i took Tucker's tip and called apple. after getting my battery and MBP's serial numbers, and getting the charge capacity and cycle count info, the tech checked into it and sure enough, they are sending me a new battery. they had to take my credit card info since my MBP is long out of warranty (just in case i don't send back the bad battery, so they can charge me, ha - like that's going to happen), but they are not charging me for the replacement battery. so, thank you again, Tucker -- you are my hero.

thank you for the tip, Tucker -- an update from me: i spoke too soon last night. while my meter said it was over 2 hours battery time left, it died suddenly around 20 minutes, just like before. looks like i'm going to call apple.
