Mac OS X Up-to-Date covers machines bought 10/1 thru 12/29
You crave the shiny goodness that is OS X 10.5 Leopard... we know you do. Still, you'd rather buy that new computer now instead of waiting for the chaos and long lines once the new system ships -- can you get a cheap upgrade? We now have the answer: with Apple's OS X Up-to-Date program, you're covered.Any qualifying Macs (or XServes, for 10.5 Server up to date) purchased between October 1 2007 and December 29 2007 that ship with 10.4 Tiger are eligible for a $9.95 US upgrade to Leopard. Visit Apple's Up-to-Date page at http://www.apple.com/macosx/uptodate/ for program details and the necessary forms.
Thanks, Jeremy!

Just checked with Apple on the refurb question - they said no. Me thinks this is ridiculous! I spent $2400 on a refurb at the Apple Store online...not on eBay or used mac store, but at Apple. How is my situation different than the person who bought a new one, same time, same place?

Uh...if Leopard ships in October...what machines bought after October 29th will still have Tiger? What machines bought in DECEMBER would still have Tiger on it?And why would you have to pay another $10 for it? Just refurbs?

Do they do a similar program for iLife? I bought a new MBP and the new iLife '08 came out after I ordered but before it arrived -- very annoying.

Hmmm.
Ordered top of the line iMac on the 28th September, Dispatched 2nd October, money debited on the 4th October, iMac arrived on the 8th.
So, do I qualify?
Of course, being in the UK there is no page to check on.

Ok, looks like the upgrade is "free", but shipping and handling is $9.95.

Bought my MacBook Sept 21th, received it the 28th, but I went to the update online form anyway and filled up my information and it worked! They are sending me a free (+ shipping) update! I just received my e-mail confirmation. Note: from the Canadian online store.

I've needed a new computer for a few weeks now, but was holding off for the Leopard announcement. I just called and bought an iMac and was told a coupon would be included with information about how to upgrade to Leopard for $10.

Any reason the list of qualifying Macs does *not* include the 2GHz Mini?

If I buy a Macbook with Tiger now will I be able to do a completely fresh clean install of Leopard later ie. is there any difference between an update and a system bundled with the computer

Having read through the T&Cs on the US website, it seems that the Up-to-Date offer is only valid in America and Canada. They may well have a similar offer in the UK but you might have to do a bit more work to find out more about it
