Leopard, 'a beautiful upgrade' says Tom Yager
Tom Yager is a big time geek, and I mean that in the best way possible. As the ' InfoWorld Test Center chief technologist' he gets his hands on all kinds of cool tech, and has used more OSes than most people ever dreamed of (heck, most people would be hard pressed to name more than 2 OSes, but that is beside the point). I point all this out because Tom knows what he is talking about, and recently he was moved to talk about Leopard.Tom calls Leopard 'a beautiful upgrade,' and in no uncertain terms lauds it as the best OS choice out there. He goes as far as saying that Leopard is more important than the iPhone, which I actually agree with. Read the full post to get even more excited about Friday.

Apps will require Leopard at some stage.
In the three years since Tiger, some of the frameworks have changed dramatically that you get real benefits from upgrading.
Your current apps will most likely get upgraded, improved and require Leopard.
Faster, smarter and better integrated across the board. That is why you should spend $130.
"Ihate to be a ball buster but just thought i'd let you know for many pirates the WoW started yesterday as leopard final 10.5 (the 581 build) hit the download sites, usenet, torrents etc."
Download sites, usenet... both which don't really depend on two guys seeding it.
Oh, and let's not forget this nugget of wisdom from the same moron commenter:
"And guess what Apple lovers, if Apple hadn't put iTunes on Windows, we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now, because you Apple zealots would still be stuck in a low market share quagmire. Lesson? When Apple embraces Windows, windows users will embrace Apple."
The comment section on the original article is hilarious. Particularly the morons who can't even type a coherent sentence:
"Apple zealots and uber-techies like you are the ones Apple should listen to least. You can't see the forest thru the trees. If Leopard doesn't have BootCamp out of beta and easier to operate than a gumball machine. This will just keep the current juggernaut going, but not add brand new users. What will add brand new users, is if Apple has created their own proprietary version of Parallels. No one wants to pay extra money for flimsy 3rd party software to operate windows within a window within OS X. Lastly, but certainly not leastly, the REAL holy grail for Apple getting REAL market share, is if they finally figure out how to make it so the computer can switch from native OS X to NATIVE Vista/XP on the fly in one second. At this point in technology, operating systems should be like channels on the TV, a quick flip to get the next one."
"so can anyone give me one good reason to justify me spending 130 on this upgrade?" - Time Machine.(http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/timemachine.html)
"Being as I basically live in my IDE (which isn't XCode), writing Java, and bounce back between Firefox and Safari, there's no glaring feature here that I absolutely must have immediately." - Java, Ruby, Python, and Perl have been extended to support DTrace, providing unprecedented access for monitoring the performance characteristics of those languages. I'm sure there will be a bunch of .0 problems, waiting for .2 may be wise if you're a fraidy cat. But 10.5 is a BIG upgrade.
Big John, In order for him to download it that fast. They have to seed it that fast. And 2 guys that are seeding it to the couple hundred that are downloading it do not have the upload to do that. That is for sure. Someone does not understand how torrent works.

So, I'll give it a chance to hit the consumers and go through a first go round of patches before I take it on.
I want to get Java 1.6, but I don't need it that badly right now.
Thanks Anthony, that was really helpful....

so can anyone give me one good reason to justify me spending 130 on this upgrade? I mean, the trend seems that this time two years from now, we'll have os 10.7...Is it really worth the money?
