Leopard, 'a beautiful upgrade' says Tom Yager
Tom Yager is a big time geek, and I mean that in the best way possible. As the ' InfoWorld Test Center chief technologist' he gets his hands on all kinds of cool tech, and has used more OSes than most people ever dreamed of (heck, most people would be hard pressed to name more than 2 OSes, but that is beside the point). I point all this out because Tom knows what he is talking about, and recently he was moved to talk about Leopard.Tom calls Leopard 'a beautiful upgrade,' and in no uncertain terms lauds it as the best OS choice out there. He goes as far as saying that Leopard is more important than the iPhone, which I actually agree with. Read the full post to get even more excited about Friday.

I don't see how anyone could suggest that Leopard ISN'T more important than the iPhone. It's an incredible, awesome new OS for the most used device in the world (the computer). The iPhone was just a phone. The best phone ever, but nothing brand new. I have an old iPod and a cell phone, until I can afford an iPhone, and they do the trick! But Leopard...I'm DYING right now, because I don't have it yet. Srsly.

This coming from a mac newb I think Leopard is years ahead of the competition. I was a Vista user since BETA 2 and even as far back as Longhorn BETA 1. And ever since switching to OSX I am always finding something that's like WOW this is awsome, this is all relating to Tiger too. So this friday when I go and be one of the first people to get Leopard, my WOW factor will just keep going and going. I love Apple as a company, talk about true love for what they do, I just thought that all corporation's were self minded and did not care about their customer base at all, I was very wrong about Apple on this. Leopard will be the future of all OS's to come and will revolutionize the PC world. I can just see a future of all work PC's being Winblows and everyone coming home to the serenity of OSX. That's how my life is now and I love it, I am on a PC all day at work and I can't wait to get home and wake up my iMac, I just love that piano key sound on power up it makes me so happy inside. Go Apple keep up the good work, you will make us happy and your stockholders happy.

Chris, come on dude. You know you don't have a connection fast enough to get the whole torrent by yesterday, today, tomorrow or Friday.

Carl, the swarm speed was pretty high. It's a shame though, because it's not that expensive for people to buy, seriously.
I can't wait to get my copy on Friday!!!

i ordered my iMac last week. For 2 days now it says "ready to ship" but shipment date is still set Oct. 26th. So i guess Apple delays all recent orders a bit to pack it with this beautiful cat.
all excited about my new iMac... but (not just after reading this) just as much excited to have my hands and eyes on leopard.
can't wait

Slightly O/T (for which I apologise) but, about the release on Friday.
From past experience, do Apple ship to consumers for it to arrive on release day, or ship on release day to arrive later?
Basically, I pre-ordered Leopard but I'm trying to work out if I'm better off going to an Apple store on the Saturday instead of waiting 'till the postman arrives with my DVDs.

Got my confirmation today that my copy of Leopard will arrive tomorrow. Woot! I am an Systems Analyst with my MCSE and have been a tech working on Windows systems since 1995. I have only had my Mac for 9 months and can honestly say Windows can't even compare. I can just imagine what Leopard is going to be like.

I can't wait, but I'm worried about what it is going to do to my software... mainly my Adobe CS2 programs. I don't have CS3 yet, and even if I did, I'm worried. Any clue?

@9: I pre-ordered from Apple last week and they said in no uncertain terms "arrives Friday".
@2: Agree 100%. It's just the nature of the media to hype the newest thing, and boy was the iPhone hyped this year. Hell, even iPods have been hyped more than the lowly OS. But now it's Leopard's turn.

I don't see anything in that article really showing why it's a "beautiful" OS. Apple's had a good API for years now.

@Jt Hollister: I hate to nitpick, but I don't think "the computer" is the most-used device in the world. Assuming you are referring to desktops and laptops, there are a few other classes of devices that outnumber computers - wireless phones, televisions, radios, and clocks, to name a few. It all depends on what you call a device, too.
Here's a source for TV's, cell phones, and radios:

@11 Venessa
I'm not sure about CS2, but reports on insanelymac forums say CS3 works fine.

Carl, you honestly think he couldn't download that fast? Someone doesn't have cable.

Yikes, I just read the comments over there at InfoWorld. Why are so many of their readers unable to compose a complete, coherent sentence?

Interesting article, though I disagree with his comment on "nobody rushing out to get Vista". In numbers, perhaps, but I think we must remember that many people eager to grab Vista had already had the opportunity to play with and get a feel for the OS for over 7 months. In my opinion, there lies a difference... not many of us have actually played with a leopard build, in fact I would be willing to bet that VERY few have had the chance. With Vista, we knew what to expect when it came out, damping the wow somewhat, thanks to the Beta 2 and RC (PUBLIC!), and given the large number of downloads those encountered, we can hardly say that interest was not high... All the windows 'keen' people did not thus really feel the need to camp for their own copy of vista immediately.....
Just a thought...

I have loved each Mac I have ever had (five since 1984) but they are tools, like my rake and my spatula. Some people really need perspective.

Nice article. I especially liked this paragraph:
"I know it's difficult for people who don't use Macs to understand why an operating system gets us so worked up. The coming debut of Leopard may make you mindful of Vista, an OS that no one begged to get before it shipped and that very few rushed out to get after it shipped. Vista's penetration is largely incidental, a result of being preinstalled on new PCs. That is not how Leopard will score its wins. Apple's customers rush to upgrade, and not because some sticker on a box of software says "designed for Leopard."
