Macworld's head Honcho, Jason Snell, has posted his thoughts on Leopard. Overall Jason thinks the upgrade is worth it, if not for all the big ticket items than for all the small changes and additions that add up to lots of new oomph in Apple's latest cat. That's not to say that all is right in the Leopard world. Jason dings Apple for a few things including:
- The new transparent Menubar
- Stacks
- The Dock

Just an FYI - I pre-ordered Leopard the first day I was able to, and today, 10/26 at 10AM PST, FedEx delivered it!

I don't have a transparent Menu Bar on my 1.25 G4 Mac mini, or floating stars in time machine. So if he's got a problem, get a slower Mac!!

I'll be camping out at a CompUSA since we don't have an Apple Store.

I think the new menu bar is super sexy. Regardless of the complaints of transparency.
My Leopard is installing now... I had to do a birthday lunch, so I've missed out on the early install =(

I liked it a lot until I realised I could no longer access my Windows shares. Now I'm bummed.

I hope there's a handle command-line default writing trick to make the transparent menu bar go away.

I have no problem accessing my Windows shares in Leopard. It works much better than Tiger in fact. I think you need to revise the permissions on your folders in Windows to give Guest access because that's what Leopard will try to connect as by default.

If that is all Macworld can complain about then Leopard is a winner. I stopped by the Apple store in Stonestown S.F. and got two shirts. The Apple one and the Fast Mac one. As for the 'flaws', I tried out Leopard and none of the three are sucky bad. More of a preference thing. I didn't have a problem with the menu bar and I liked the new docks shelf. As for stacks. They are a plus and a minus. Apple was demoing stacks and I like that you can store groups of like apps in separate stacks for super fast access. And it looks cool. ;)
