In my excitement over the
new MacBook, I totally missed the
latest MacBook Pro update. Again, this is a pretty minor change. The processor choices now include a 2.6 GHz Core 2 Duo, in addition to the previously available 2.2 and 2.4 chips. The cost of a 2.6 chip is $250 more than either the 15" or 17" configured with the 2.4 GHz processor and Apple estimates shipping at 2 - 3 weeks. Additionally, as Jon H. pointed out in the comments, all of the hard drive upgrade options are now 5400 RPM or better. I'm not sure when these models will be arriving in the Apple store (they aren't open right now), but if you find out before we do, let us know.
Update: I just got off the phone with my local Apple store -- they already have the new MacBooks (which have Leopard pre-installed) and the 2.6 MBP is a configure to order option only, meaning even if you buy it "in" a store - it is still going to be shipped to you.
Thanks again to everyone who sent this in!

What is the major difference between the low end MacBook Pro and the updated Black MacBook? Is the $2000 MacBook Pro really worth $500 more the than recently refreshed MacBook?

Of course, that's .2Ghz over two cores, so it's a 400MHz overall speed increase: not to be sneezed at.

Looks like the hard drive options are now all 5400 rpm or better. The high-capacity 4200 rpm drive is now a 5400.

I was hoping this wouldn't happen until January, when I was considering getting a laptop. Now January will come and I'll wonder if another update is around the corner.

re: Sam
How is spending $700 for 4GB of RAM on Apple's site a steal when I can get the same for $200 at Crucial.com? I say skip buying the RAM at Apple and get the 2.6Ghz if you need that speed. Honestly I doubt most people would be able to tell much of a difference over the 2.0Ghz.

The largest 7,200 RPM drive was also upped from 160GB to 200GB. It looks like I purchased my MacBook Pro a little too early ;)

I got my 15" MBP in September, at the same time my wife got her white MacBook (the faster one). Today's upgrades are nowhere near great enough to instill buyer's remorse. Hurrah!

Wait, I don't fully understand. It looks like just the options were improved. Not the stock models. What exactly changed?

Josh: The MacBook Pro also sports FW800, ExpressCard slot, a MUCH better keyboard, and a full size dual link DVI-port that can power a 30" display.

@ rdas
The fact that there are 2 cores does not mean the speed increase is 200MHz X 2 cores. Each core still runs at 2.6Ghz. You can just do two things at once at a speed of 2.6Ghz. This is a common misconsception about multi-core and multi-processor confogurations. If I had a quad-core cpu at 3GHz would you say my processor was running at 12GHz? No, just like if I had a 100 core cpu running at 200MHz I wouldn't have a 20GHz cpu. You have to think of the fact that a processor core can really only do one thing at a time.
