MacBook keyboard fix in Software Update
If you own a MacBook or MacBook Pro and have had keyboard problems, Apple just released a software update that will (hopefully) fix this issue! This problem was first spotted when users started upgrading to Leopard. Some users have reported that their keyboards temporarily freeze, especially in Carbon apps such as MS Office 2004.Apple states, "Some MacBook and MacBook Pro systems may occasionally experience a temporary suspension of keyboard input which can last a minute or longer." You can download the update from the Apple Support website or via Software Update.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

I am currently having the keyboard problem, and when I try to install the update, it says that I cannot install it onto my computer, it does not need it... anyone else having this problem, and if so, have you found a solution?

I notice that while you do have Leopard listed in the tag cloud, that tag doesn't show up on the front page. Also many of us don't read the tags before reading the stories. If you could be more obvious about that, it would be cool.

December 19 2007 at 4:50 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have a 2nd gen white Macbook with 10.5.1 and have been struck by Wifi issues also, while my wife (using an ibook G4 with 10.4.10 only on Wifi) has been free of any problems, so it doesn't seem to be a problem with my ISP. For an hour or two at a time, my internet connection will just drop for a few seconds to a minute at a time over and over regardless of whether or not I'm on ethernet or Wifi. Also, my home network sometimes just disappears, and the only way to connect is to re-enter the network name and password (WPA Personal). If I disconnect, then I have to do the same thing to reconnect. Sometimes it'll just fix itself randomly.
I also installed the keyboard update, but it hasn't solved my issue. I've only had the freezing keyboard a couple of times but it hasn't happened since the summer and I haven;t changed any of the programs I use. My problem is that my keyboard will intermittently drop the first letter I type. Just after I updated and rebooted, I went to send an email and it did the same thing, so nothing has been fixed for me.
If Apple would figure out why these issues are occurring and fix them, I wouldn't be plagued by the constant desire to toss my computer out the window.
gTwo weeks after getting my Macbook, the keyboard completely died. First the "a" button stopped working, then the trackpad, and then 15 minutes later, the whole thing died. Took it back to the Apple Store, where the guy at the Genius Bar started pounding on the keyboard (literally..he even said "hey, if I pound on this, I can sort of get it to work"). Still failed so I got a new one...no issues so far but its only been 4 days.

I had the keyboard issue bad and haven't had it since I did both of these things. FWIW, I did this before the update but I still updated. I haven't had any problems yet.
December 19 2007 at 11:11 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyReportedly, this still doesn't fix my issue of the first keystroke on my MBP not being accepted 90% of the time (I had to press R twice to get this post started). :(
December 19 2007 at 11:09 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe problem with my keyboard is related to the trackpad. After I use my pad, it takes several seconds for the keyboard to start responding again. Anyone have this problem, and will this update fix it?
December 19 2007 at 11:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis is the worst update I've seen in long time. I had the keyboard problem before but after installing this update it happens more often! Moreover, the keyboard and trackpad don't respond, even after several minutes.
Note: the caps lock key led does not lid either.
