Mac OS X 10.5.2 seeded to developers

When I asked Santa Steve for iPhone stability, a number of people left comments asking not for iPhone stability but for Leopard stability -- as it seems that not everyone's been enjoying a trouble-free few months with Leopard.

Thankfully, if you're waiting with bated breath for OS X 10.5.2, then you might be intrigued to hear from ITwire that OS X 10.5.2 has been seeded to developers. Sure, it's no big surprise that Apple is always working on the next update, but given that the update is currently weighing in at around 350MB there's clearly plenty that the Cupertino geniuses are working to resolve in the forthcoming update.

Whilst the smart money says that we'll have to wait until Macworld for the update, I'm certain that plenty of readers with big-cat issues would rather see it a little sooner.

I also bought an 24" IMac on January. It works well, but not perfect. There is a problem with JPG that I have seen in other discussions. Some JPG files do not work, they even don't show a thumbnail and as I place a large amount of pictures for a full preview the system freezes and I should restart the computer holding the power button.

Now I'm having problems with the image disk mounting. The system don't recognize the .toast files as image disks.

Any ideas...

Leopard 10.5.1 Server AFP is horribly unreliable when using Open Directory users. I had to go back to Tiger 10.4.11. Shameful.

Same here, I had to go back to 10.4.11 because AFP crashed every few hours, even after a reinstall.

I hope that it will re-enable the bluetooth/phone features of the addressbook. I really miss these.

I also hope that it will finally fix 802.1x authentication (only works here with "Internet Connect.app" from 10.4).

It is really interesting, that for someone Leopard works flawlessly, for someone it causes audio/mouse/network problems.
My experience with Apple OS is that if you have problems with OS, there is a problem with hardware.

Once i got bad memory and lots of bad stuff happened, corrupted files, program crashes, kernel panics, changed memory and vola problem solved.

"I really want to know why the Finder can't remember individual folder view settings."

Apparently, it's a 'feature'.

See here: http://arstechnica.com/reviews/os/mac-os-x-10-5.ars/12#divided

The relevant text is as follows:

[EXCERPT]

The Leopard Finder makes its usual, halfhearted, buggy attempt to retain window size and position for each folder. It still does so using .DS_Store files in each directory, and those files are still written in an undocumented binary format. What the Leopard Finder no longer even *attempts* to do, however, is remember the view style for each folder (e.g., list view, icon view) unless explicitly asked to do so by the user. Here are the steps required to do that.

1. Open the folder.
2. Set its view style to the desired state.
3. Open the View Options panel (type command-j or select the item in the View menu).
4. Check the "Always open in ... " checkbox, where "... " will be the view style set in step 2.

This process must be repeated *for every single folder that you want to retain its view style*. If you do not do this, the view style of any given folder will be the same as the last view style that you explicitly selected for any folder.

Is there any way to disable this?? It drives me batty that every time I open Finder it's in a different size and a different place on my desktop. Mr. Siracusa has never been able to convince me that this "spatial" business is all it's cracked up to be :) Either that, or I'm just too used to Explorer.

Oh, and almost no troubles here with the Leopard upgrade on an early 2006 iMac.

Except or some of us the Finder will still forget the explicit setting for any given window after an unspecified period, even if we use the prescribed method.

"only problems with complicated setups"

Not so for me. I bought a 24" imac from apple store with leopard dvd in the box. Did the leopard install immediately and have had a host of issues.
* mouse freezes on wakeup from sleep, need a reboot to fix
* audio stops working intertmittantly, need to restart coreauds service to restore.
* System froze while playing a dvd
* iPhoto quits unexpectantly
* network shares disappear
* Couldn't unmount dmg images

and so on...
If you search apples discussion forum for reports of system freezes/crashes you will find many reports.
I do like leopard but it was definitely a buggy release and hope the upcoming release addresses the issues I'm having.

Leopard no so great for me so far.

I can't even get it to install on my G5 iMac.

I'll hope to get it running by the time this update comes out, it looks good. Especially the Stacks fix.

There are still issues with the Atheros drivers (my MBP has kernel panicked a few times) as far as I know. Hopefully 10.5.2 will remedy that.
