Found Footage: Meredith Viera licks MacBook Air
Well, here's something you don't see everyday. This is Meredith Viera on the Today Show pretending to lick a MacBook Air. Ironically enough, NBC is the owner of the Today Show. Al Roker, the technology person he is, informed the viewing audience that if you want the SSD option for the Air, you'll be "paying a bit more."

With all the negative reviews from short-sided power-users that are filling the tech forums and blogs it's good to see the MacBook Air's target audience talking highly about it.

That is very funny! The MacBook Air finally found an audience. Rich stars with tons of disposable income. Who'd a thought that. It's a shame Apple doesn't make affordable systems for the rest of us. No notebooks for under $1000 and they left the Mac mini out to dry. Way to go Apple!

Bender, You spoke too soon. One of the haters had to come in and try to kill the love.
JohnPQ, if you're a student, the macbook IS $999. If you're not, you should save up the extra $100, and stop whining.

I'm not a student but my Macbook was $850. Go refurbs!

So wait...because we're not the target demo we're not allowed to be critical?

I agree with the former commenter. It is refreshing to se a new and positive look at the new Macbook Air. On a side not nice to see Apple using Yael Naim music in their ad. She is an Israeli artist and her music is great.

The MacBook AIr isn't meant for people looking for power and the features of a regular notebook. I believe that Apple is targeting business consumers who just need an ultra-portable solution with only the basics of computing. That would be the kind of consumer willing to pay the higher price tag for something that looks stylish and professional. It's almost like the iPod touch when it was first released. People hated the fact that it was nothing more than a stripped down and slimmer iPhone and thus kept comparing it to the greatness of the iPhone. The people who will buy this is people who need something with a more professional appearance than a MacBook but doesn't need the power of a MacBook Pro. My only complaint is that the MacBook Air probably should have ben priced about $200 cheaper.

Now, i love the Macbook air, but i just think when people display it
on their show, they should get their facts right. Ok, look Today
Show, its a 64GB SSD, not a 60GB FLASH drive.
Sort your selfs out.

To their defense, SSD drives use flash memory and 60GB was probably just a case of lazy rounding. These guys are definitely not tech people and probably thought 4 GB doesn't matter. ;-)

seriously...get the facts right before going on the air! :p
Maverick18x said 2:12PM on 1-27-2008
Tony, I sure hope nobody "went" on the Air.

Meredith Viera shouldn't be allowed to talk about anything even remotely related to technology. Remember when she covered the iPhone? She didn't know it has a touch screen! How in the world would you be able to control a phone with a single button?!

News shows always annoy me when everyone talks at the same time. Taking turns when talking is a skill I had mastered by age 6 and yet there are some people who still have problems with this simple concept.

Well aren't you just amazing...
Listening to three different conversations at once is also considered a valuable skill. :)

JohnPQ,
What is it with people like you who are so bitter just because of the price tag of something? Do you go into a diatribe about cost when you look at lobster on a restaurant menu? I really don't get it. Welcome to the the real world: EVERYTHING IS EXPENSIVE.
So it is expensive. So what? So you can't afford it (or don't want to pay the price). So what? Apple does not start their product line at the $500 (for a computer that most would people who visit a site like this would consider a piece of junk) price point like every other computer maker out there and therefore skips all the BS with low end crud and goes straight for the good stuff. Do you want BMW or Mercedes to make a sub-compact $25,000 sedan? That is just not what they do, nor does Apple. They are a mid to high end "luxury" computer maker. Not making cheaper models is not meant to be a personal slight to you or anyone else who wants a low cost option. And besides, is $1,800 really all THAT much money? I mean for most people if they just pocket that nearly $4 they spend on a coffee at Starbucks every morning for about six months they would be almost half way to the price of a Macbook Air!

You’re wrong! Look in your Sunday paper today. You can go to any CC or Best Buy and buy a laptop with better specs than the entry-level MacBook for hundreds less. Most of these come with 15” screens, 2GB of RAM, and 160 or 250GB hard drives. JC the entry-level MacBook only comes with a 80GB hard drive. There is no doubt that OS X is a superior OS, but the Apple Tax is out of hand in my opinion. Sorry just keeping it real!
Maverick18x said 2:10PM on 1-27-2008
Do you know what I find in my Sunday paper? Ads for laptops that use last year's processors, run Windows XP and come pre-installed with bloatware. Worst of all, they're only discounted after 5 asterisks worth of fine print, a mail in rebate, and a ISP subscription. The ads in my Sunday paper send me running for the Apple store.

Really? The ones that I see have Intel C2D CPUs, 2GB of RAM, 160GB-250GB 5400RPM SATA drives, built-in webcams, 802.11b/g/n, 15" glossy screens, DVD burners (something else the entry-level MacBook doesn't have), card readers, x3100 graphics and more. They also include Vista "Premium". Ok, now that sucks, but you get the point. The MacBook is a crappy deal in my opinion. If you still don't believe me, go to Dell and spec out a new 14" or 15" Inspiron.
Maxintech said 4:54PM on 1-27-2008
JohnPQ tell me when Apple had a competitive or even more cheap than others in any kind of product?
Besides, you compare a Dell 14", or 15" specification (At this moment I'm writing on one of this - Inspiron 6400) with MBA instead of MBP.
You must compare MBA's specs and price with Sony TZ series or Dell XPS 13" or etc...
