New MacBook Pro tear-down
It's only been about 12 hours since the new MacBook Pro's were released and already someone has posted a tear-down online. AnandTech has a full gallery of pictures showing the tear-down process. Interestingly enough, AnandTech's Anand Lal Shimpi reports that while the MacBook Pro's processor got an upgrade today, it offers "very little performance boost." [via MacDailyNews]

If the update doesn't see a significant increase in performance or battery life, the 45nm chips should see a drop in heat generated. Shouldn't they? Less heat is a good thing - definitely not worth upgrading for but maybe worth waiting for (which I've been doing).

February 27 2008 at 7:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOmg, I thought they would have learned by now but they're still overdoing the cooling paste and judged on those pictures it's a low-ass quality cooling paste too...
February 27 2008 at 6:00 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat I don't get, and this is a little off topic, is why nobody seems to be mentioning that the macbooks now ship with 802.11n, when previously they were shipping with g.

February 27 2008 at 3:41 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe real question for me is will Apple release "gestures" for the older models of MBP, much like they did with the "AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac."
I guess this all depends on if a third party developer figures out how do implement gestures for free. If so then I think apple will start selling it as an upgrade.
I can't imagine that the trackpad is actually different, it all seems like firmware to me.
anyone know when the apple stores will have the new MBPs?

You've got the possessive apostrophe in there, so I have to conclude that you forgot a word or two. I mean, you wouldn't put an apostrophe before a plural s, would you?
I guess he was going to write "macbook pro's release" but may be got a phone call in the middle, when he came back he lost his track and thought he was going to write "were released"?
February 27 2008 at 12:38 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyim confused, everyone is commenting on the LED backlight, wasnt that already the case, the new addition i see is a High-Definition LED display... whats that mean?
February 26 2008 at 11:24 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe LED was on the 15" model and the 17" still had the CCFL (and an optional CCFL based high definition screen) prior to this update. The "high definition" display is just their way of saying that the resolution is 1080. In this case, the resolution is actually 1920x1200 (so it's slightly higher than 1080), it doesn't really matter unless you are watching HDTV on it or professional video editor.......since we don't have any blu-ray options, having a HD display is kind of pointless for most people on the mac at this point anyway.
