New MacBook Pro tear-down
It's only been about 12 hours since the new MacBook Pro's were released and already someone has posted a tear-down online. AnandTech has a full gallery of pictures showing the tear-down process. Interestingly enough, AnandTech's Anand Lal Shimpi reports that while the MacBook Pro's processor got an upgrade today, it offers "very little performance boost." [via MacDailyNews]

I'll do a break down, they are better. Bar none. I was thinking about a secondary imac and really wrestling with it, but you know what? No way, the graphics card, FSB, and getting rid of the ridiculous controller are all great advancements for technology and the human race as a whole. Thanks!

But I'll survive.

I bought my Mac Book Pro right after the Santa Rosa upgrade and now that I'm technologically "behind" I suppose I'm... "happy" its not a huge upgrade. But still... Multitouch!

im confused, everyone is commenting on the LED backlight, wasnt that already the case, the new addition i see is a High-Definition LED display... whats that mean?

The LED was on the 15" model and the 17" still had the CCFL (and an optional CCFL based high definition screen) prior to this update. The "high definition" display is just their way of saying that the resolution is 1080. In this case, the resolution is actually 1920x1200 (so it's slightly higher than 1080), it doesn't really matter unless you are watching HDTV on it or professional video editor.......since we don't have any blu-ray options, having a HD display is kind of pointless for most people on the mac at this point anyway.

"12 hours since the new MacBook Pro's" what were released?
You've got the possessive apostrophe in there, so I have to conclude that you forgot a word or two. I mean, you wouldn't put an apostrophe before a plural s, would you?

I guess he was going to write "macbook pro's release" but may be got a phone call in the middle, when he came back he lost his track and thought he was going to write "were released"?

anyone know when the apple stores will have the new MBPs?

The real question for me is will Apple release "gestures" for the older models of MBP, much like they did with the "AirPort Extreme 802.11n* Enabler for Mac."
I guess this all depends on if a third party developer figures out how do implement gestures for free. If so then I think apple will start selling it as an upgrade.
I can't imagine that the trackpad is actually different, it all seems like firmware to me.

I think it will probably be a paid-for-update if they do, like the n-update was.
I read an article on, i think, TAB about how they aren't legally allowed to add major extra functionality without taking a token payment. or something like that. It was about the ipod touch paid update but i think it also applies to this

its actually that the new trackpads have a new broadcam controller under them, the same ones found in the ipod touch/iphone so its almost impossible for them to just release it as a firmware update.

If I recall correctly, the new multi touch track pads are in fact different hardware, so there's no way to add that functionality to non-supporting hardware.

Jameson they're available at Apple Stores right now! I got mine today at an Apple Store in Seattle, and I'm typing this comment on it as we speak or type.

What I don't get, and this is a little off topic, is why nobody seems to be mentioning that the macbooks now ship with 802.11n, when previously they were shipping with g.

Omg, I thought they would have learned by now but they're still overdoing the cooling paste and judged on those pictures it's a low-ass quality cooling paste too...

How in world did they manage to miss the new USB port on the left side next to the power-connector? They even opened the damn thing and didn't notice.

If the update doesn't see a significant increase in performance or battery life, the 45nm chips should see a drop in heat generated. Shouldn't they? Less heat is a good thing - definitely not worth upgrading for but maybe worth waiting for (which I've been doing).
