University: Trade in your Winbook for a MacBook
Oklahoma Christian University (OC) joins Abilene Christian University in becoming the second school in so many weeks to "go Mac." When OC students (and faculty) return to school this summer, they'll be issued shiny new MacBooks. That's great, but consider this - students who show up with Windows laptops will be able to exchange them with the school for MacBooks.
As Ron Popeil would say, "But wait, there's more!" Students will also be offered an iPod touch or an iPhone from the university (students will be responsible for the activation of the iPhone with the service provider).
Combine that with campus-wide Wi-Fi and an aggressive technology in education initiative, and OC just became very attractive to many high school seniors.

I went to OCU in the mid-late 90's. It's a great school and the smaller enrollment makes more one on one learning possible. I felt I got a better education there than the 1 year I had at a state school. I was part of the initial laptop program my last year there and I'm glad to see them moving up with the times with Apple.

You are entitled to believe what you'd like, but you are seriously misguided about Christian universities.
I went to Abilene Christian University and had TONS of non-Christians and atheists. Nobody requires you to be a Christian to go there.
Do you have to be a Methodist to go to SMU? No. Do you have to be Mormon to go to BYU? No. Do you have to be a Christian to go to TCU (Texas Christian University)? No.
I don't know where you get the idea that Christian universities are some sort of bubble that protects these little Christian people from the evil outside world.
You can disagree with Christians if you like, but your opinions that you'd stated are equally as bad as the things you accuse Christian universities of.........close-mindedness.
Just a bit of trivia: OC and ACU both come out of the same small Christian tradition, most recently famous for that Matthew Winkler murder case thing, and that Nancy Grace CNN interview thing. Which makes me kind of curious. (I graduated from ACU. And bought my own iPhone, dangit.)

Now are these Peryn or Merom Macbooks, or even the upcoming Nehalem?

Don't call it that.
Jared, I don't mean to burst your bubble, but have you seen who else is on the list of "comprehensive universities in the 16-state Western region by U.S. News and World Report"?
March 03 2008 at 11:54 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyOMG, seriously, i'm very jealous. i'm applying to this university when i graduate high school. lol.
March 03 2008 at 9:22 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust another sad marketing ploy by a small, private university. Real schools don't have to do this.
March 03 2008 at 7:18 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAs a college student, I actually use my iPhone in class more than I would have thought I would. Now, none of my professors (nor my school) offer anything special for the iPhone or iPod Touch, but the possibilities are endless.
With the SDK coming up, imagine how special applications made for that class could enhance the learning. Instead of a periodic table projected on a huge wall, every student could have one in their pockets, with more information about each element at the touch of their finger.
Don't be so close minded about it all.
