The Daily Show, recently returned to full writer strength, apparently decided that the best way to say "high tech" for its March 5 Election Center feature was by getting a bunch of MacBook Airs on the set. Five of them, to be precise, arrayed before correspondents like Aasif Mandvi, Samantha Bee and Rob Riggle.
Does putting an Air onscreen automatically make these fake journalists more credible and authoritative? Maybe not... but that isn't stopping some other jokers from using them in slightly more official newsrooms.
Thanks to Kevin for the screen capture and Jesse for the Karl Rove tip.

Rove also has an iPhone and Rush Limbaugh is also a big mac user (he's complained that Apple would never do an ad with him) which just goes to show that technology can be used for good and evil.

This could explain why there are so few at the retail stores...

Except they were NOT Macbook Airs, they were 12" Powerbooks....about 10, by my count.

I saw a Dell laptop in a House MD episode while in an earlier episode I saw a MacBook Pro! Maybe they've turned against Apple!

Some shows have used Dell's to stand for bad guys and Macs for good guys. Could be that! :)

...or since maybe they know they are a joke journalists and make fun of the whole deal they are using Mac Book Air's to make fun of the MBA's totally over priced useless nature ;)

Actually, when seen on an HDTV channel, it is clear that they were all stage props made from grey foam... The frontmost guy had one with several noticeable "creases" in the back of the display, and it was even a little bit bent.
The Daily Show doesn't have the budget to buy a bunch of computers for a skit that lasts a few minutes. Sorry to disappoint all of you!

Fake journalism? For my money, Jon Stewart's take on the political scene is highly perceptive and absolutely valid. The fact that his views are delivered in a comedic style doesn't detract from the value of his perspective in the slightest.
If you want examples of fake journalism, just tune in to the talking heads on CNN or MSNBC. These "experts" seem to spend most of their time analyzing the strategies of the candidates, utterly ignoring the issues.

alansky, I would agree with you.... except when the writers are on strike Jon Stewart and so many others seem to not have such eloquent opinions. Face it, when you take away the teleprompter they honestly don't have much to say.

CNN had some MacBook Pros during their broadcast as well. Not all of the commentators, but some.
Probably product placement, methinks...
