Sorry about that Cody (and everyone); my e-mail has been down all day and I just received about 100 e-mails all at once. I am adding this to the post now. :-)

Does this update fix the idle processor buzzing my original MacBook (not C2D) makes? DAMN that sound drives me nuts...

My MBP would not find this in Software Update so I downloaded and tried to install manually but it said I don't need it... however according to the apple support site, my firmware version should show as something else... anyone else get this? I have a MacBookPro3,1

It seems this update is not for all models. I have a late 2006 model Macbook and this does not show up in software update for me.

Apparently not for Penryn-based MBPs...

Does anyone know if this addresses at all the design "feature" of the MacBook Air, wherein the second core drops when it's under load? A friend of mine had this problem with one (and its replacement), and Apple finally told him it's dropped on purpose:

Seems misleading to sell it as having dual cores for use, if the design prevents you from actually using them both.

The Core 2 Duo is designed to power down one core and overclock the other when processing single threads under heavy load.
Josh Kagan said 9:26PM on 4-08-2008
Wikipedia explains it better: "The Santa Rosa platform comes with dynamic acceleration technology. It allows single threaded applications to execute faster. When a single threaded application is running the CPU can turn off one of the CPU cores and overclock the active core. In this way the CPU maintains the same Thermal Profile as it would when both cores are active. Santa Rosa performs well as a mobile gaming platform due to its ability to switch between single threaded and multithreaded tasks." Looks like the Macbook EFI update is unnecessary on the newest model of Macbook.
