The BlackBoard Pro
Here's the situation. You're sitting with a friend when she gives you some great information that you want to write down. Or, you want to share something with her, but your Mac is not running, and it seems like a hassle to wait for it to boot just to complete that simple exchange. What's a nerd to do?How about cover the lid of your MacBook Pro with chalkboard paint? That's exactly what Russell Davies did, and the BlackBoard Pro was born. It's got a certain "Little House on the Prairie Schoolhouse" charm, and as Russell says, "...there's something very satisfying about crossing off a to do by licking your finger and smearing it out."
Well done, Russell. We think.

Windows laptop users can spray the inside of the lid.

when is your mbp ever turned off (sorry i usually just shut the lid)... This is a ridiculous idea and everyone on boingboing yesterday agreed there are significant consequences for doing such a stupid thing. But the dude than painted his van in chalkboard paint is cool.

Worst idea ever. AND he did it to a Macbook PRO and not just a Macbook. Guess he has too much money.

Or how about not shutting it down? I think I've used my power button to turn on my computer less than a dozen times. And I've had my MacBook since August. Close the lid and you're good to go. Open it and you'll be back on your desktop in a few seconds, at most.

Standby mode drains the battery. Batteries take electricity to charge. Some of us believe in showing our pockets and the planet a little love.

I can't imagine the chalk dust being too friendly to the CPU heat sink. That's why most classrooms nowadays have whiteboards- so that chalk dust isn't caking the insides of computers.

For God's sake, he could have at least painted one of those acrylic covers and not the laptop itself.

it's funny that Russell turned the comments off to his post about ruining his laptop. i guess he hadn't figured out that he could keep these lists in his Moleskin, which is pictured, and use his pen to add things to his list and then cross them off. and i agree, the chalk dust will kill his machine, and any other valuables he has around, in a few weeks.

OMG! I don't even know what to say. I'm speechless. The humanity! Let's see, trash my $3000 laptop or carry a 99 cent pocket notebook? Yeh, I think I'll trash my $3000 laptop.

Just plain idiotic, might have been funny to do to your old G4 powerbook but a $3000 laptop?

LOL. Seriously, I'm working at home, and I laughed out loud.
C'mon Russell Davies, let's have an encore.

wow thanks! It was a toss up between the car-post it note or turning his TV into a mirror

Wow, I mean one of the greatest features of a macbook/pro is the stand-by. Moron. How long til we see this on eBay?

How bout getting one of those plastic shells thingies (http://www.macbook-case.com/) to protect the MacBook Pro and painting THAT instead of defacing it? Now, that would be a good suggestion. Horrors to anyone who would paint their mac. This has to be a photoshopped joke.

Just use a dry erase marker. As long as your laptop is clean, it'll wipe right off. If it's not clean, it might smudge in a bit and cause dark spots. Comes right out with a bit of water or alcohol though. The chalkboard just looks silly.

When the computer is on he probably uses white-out on the screen to fix his mistakes.
