Unfortunately it recognized my iPhone right away though it would not sync until after I click on it and clicked again that I was still not interested in MobileMe.

Thanks for the tip! Ironically, I was looking at an Apple discussion thread last night about the bugginess of iTunes 7.7 because I was trying to figure out why my iPod took 2 minutes to sync.
And those who still want to strip the DRM from their music and videos - I've also found it doesn't break Requiem 1.7.3 (Google it).

Just installed-did not fix the Applications update issue. It even told me this time practically every single one of my apps had an upgrade (Pandora, Stanza, Currency, etc.) even though I've upgraded these (some of them more than once).
...did the upgrade, and Pandora still says 1.0 in iTunes. (it says 1.1 on the iPhone). So, guessing the Applications/App Store thing wasn't part of the update :p

Yeah, I have endless issues with the exact same thing. This time is actually pulled off all the new applications from my iPhone, but the ones that were already on the computer are still showing as updatable even though more recent versions are on the phone.
Lame. I can't imagine how something this glaring was missed in the first place, and how in the world it's not been fixed yet.

Hopefully it fixes the problem I'm having with contacts: ever since I tried using "Sync with Google Contacts", I can't have it sync with Address Book. If I clear the iPod Touch (or do a complete restore – which I tried), it will not sync my address book. Also, all of my groups won't show up in iTunes, only some of them. I've even tried resetting sync services from iSync, all with no luck. Please fix it!

If you want a good laugh, go to the Apple Canada downloads page. In the top downloads section, iTunes 7.6.2 is listed, so is Quicktime 7.4.5, and OSX 10.5.3 updater!!
I used to think Apple was so with it...

I'm starting to notice a trend in apples quality. Not any seriously major issues , but small slips and mistakes like the
Canada site noted above or the app store update problems, and we all know the mobile me situation. Oh and the 2.0 bugs. Like I said nothing super major but definetly a decline in apples quality. Which IMHO was one of their strong points. Perhaps with all the new launches and services apple
Is starting to strech themselfs thin a bit? Or hiring less than standard employees that lack this attention to detail?

I can confirm that this update does NOT fix the iPhone 2.0 backups that take tens of minutes or hours.

Isn't that caused by backing up applications on sync?

You don't have to Backup. You can click the x to the left and it will sync but not backup for that session.
The reason it backs up is if your iPhone ever died, then it grabs the backup to do a full restore. Reason it takes longer? Apps. File sizes are bigger. They have data. They exist. Nothing can be done about that.

Ah, but you see, I like having a recent backup available, should I need to restore. That's the whole point.

I could fill my phone with 16 gigs of music and video twice over in the same amount of time it takes for iTunes to backup 15-20 apps of about 30 megs each. It's ridiculous, and yes, something can be done about that.

If they didn't fix that, what really was the point of this release?
