MacBook pricing and part numbers?
According to posts appearing on MacRumors and BoyGeniusReport tonight, Best Buy has been receiving new part numbers and pricing for unknown devices that are shipping to stores right now. MacRumors took the part numbers and price list and came up with the following assumption for what's going to be announced during tomorrow's notebook event:- K29, MB382LL/A $899.00 - MacBook?
- M97, MB466LL/A $1,299.00 - MacBook
- M97, MB467LL/A $1,599.00 - MacBook
- M96, MB543LL/A $1,799.00 - MacBook Air
- M96, MB940LL/A $2,499.00 - MacBook Air
- M98, MB470LL/A $1,999.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
- M98, MB471LL/A $2,499.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
- M88, MB766LL/A $2,799.00 - 17" MacBook Pro
What do you think about this pricing rumor? My personal feeling is that the numbers are valid, considering they're appearing this close to a major event. Leave your comments below.

If it's small enough, tidy enough - we can presume svelte - my wife will probably be first in line for the $899 model.
She's the one who got the whole family started into switching. Still has her original iBook dual booting OS X and Ubuntu.

899 as the base model and 1299 as the next model up? That's quite a leap. Usually the base model is never worth it (it currently still lacks a DVD burner). And a 1599 Macbook? These prices are odd.

The $899 unit bears the unique mark "K29," as opposed to "Mxx" for the other MacBooks. Is that an Apple thing or a Best Buy thing, an what does that portend?

My guess is it's not a MacBook at all. Some are saying new display, and others are wishing upon the star of Mini. Personally, I say wait until tomorrow.

I'm suspecting that the $899 & 2799 products are something outside of the existing product line.
also check the "M" & "K" numbers... existing products have matching numbers, but the 899 & 2799 have "M" & "K" numbers that do not fall in line with the others in their assumed family :
- K29 - $899.00 - MacBook?
- M97 - $1,299.00 - MacBook
- M97 - $1,599.00 - MacBook
- M96 - $1,799.00 - MacBook Air
- M96 - $2,499.00 - MacBook Air
- M98 - $1,999.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
- M98 - $2,499.00 - 15" MacBook Pro
- M88 - $2,799.00 - 17" MacBook Pro

That is pretty odd...so the entry level MacBook gets a huge discount, the middle one stays the same...and the top level gets MORE expensive?
(Currently 1099/1299/1499)

I spoke with a friend of mine just a few minutes ago. He happens to be the Genius Bar manager at our local apple store. He couldn't say much, but hinted that, like the AppleTV new and improved model was much cheaper yet a higher quality product, the $899 price is simply the base and we should see not only complete redesign and better specs, but each price point / configuration will have a relative price drop!!!
And yes, the Best Buy deal is just simply intending to throw in the new $899 model with the current prices and models numbers. Apple isn't stupid, as they learned with the MacBook Air in just 8 months. They'll have a relative price point structure across the board. All of this hype isn't just for a new $899 model. The whole system is new all around, including pricing!!!

I would assume that a sub $1000 notebook would contain: 13" screen, 1 GB ram, 80 GB hard drive, no CD or DVD drive, a cheap low power processor, cheap integrated video, and a cheap battery. Also, it's not going to be as thin as the MB Air, and I wouldn't be surprised if the casing material was a cheaper plastic. OOOOORrrrrr... it could be a multi-touch tablet device. Who knows...

Looks like MacRumors agrees with Josh ... Cinema display for the $899 price point.

I really don't think the $899 price is for a low-priced MacBook. It would just be too big of a gap between that and the next price point. The only way that would happen is if Apple left out an awful lot of features, and that just doesn't seem very Apple-like!

We will actually know in a few hours -aye!
So, I will not only not speculate or mentally mast-ur-bait (misspelling intentional) here nor will I even try to guess what will happen with the dangling chads in November....

I know there are 12 new stock numbers (or so my informant at the apple store told me). So where are the other 4? Do you think they are just configuration options for some of these 8 products? Or do you think will we have 4 new products announced tomorrow (along with the ones already spoiled by best buy)?
Can't wait till 10am!

Someone else has already said there are in fact 12 price points going to be announced at the event. This list has no new price points.
These might all be correct, but I think there will also be more announced as well - this could simply be the ones that BestBuy are going to stock, not the full lineup - which would also explain why some of the numbers don't match up, the K and M etc.

I was hoping / thinking that:
- either the $800 could be base and then for $900 - $950 you get to step up to the next model.
- or the $800 would be the 10"-11" MacBook
Sounds like neither will be the case.

I don't know if it's true, but I hope so! I didn't think I'd be able to buy another laptop when my Powerbook died (I have a new iMac for my main computer), but at $899 I might be able to swing it.
