Insomnia Film Festival postponed due to server problems
A few weeks ago, we told you about this year's Insomnia Film Festival -- a contest for high school and college students to create a 3-minute film in only 24 hours. However, eager contestants were greeted with some unfortunate news yesterday when they loaded the Apple Insomnia website.Apple notes that "due to unexpected challenges" the film festival will be postponed until after the holidays. Many TUAW readers let us know they were unable to register, so server errors could be to blame for this postponement.
If you have already registered, Apple will contact you shortly with the new, rescheduled date. If you haven't registered for the film festival, and would still like to, you can do so on the Apple website.
Thanks to Michael, David, and others for their tips!

Well, if the servers were down, they can try after some time.... But it can not necessarily mean that the event was postponed due to the server being down....

My team and I had been preparing for this all week... We're pretty perturbed.

I am with you adam, my group has been working all week to get everything perfect! We had made lots of plans, and now we have to go and cancel every last one of them, it is such an inconvenience and I am very disappointed!

yeah, see the main problem is I was preparing for this for a while. I had rented a lot of stuff and had my team cancel everything they were doing for the day. Apple didn't even send out an email saying it is postponed. It is Friday now. This was supposed to start tomorrow. If my teammate didn't happen to check the website late last night, we wouldn't have even known. I can't believe no official email was even sent out to inform everybody. I hope sh*t hits the fan tomorrow when everyone wakes up and logs on to get the rules for the festival tomorrow. Very disappointed.

Very upset. I knew it will probably will not work when I start receiving emails from Apple on Wednesday. They said that they had difficulties and hopefully will fix them (I had to write to them to get this information). But ya, I was very upset when I heard the news on Thursday evening. I had planned everything out and had managed to get 4 professional theater actors for this event. Ah, not sure if I could get them again for the postponed date.

Only learned this because of the email we got at 3pm on the day before the film festival began. Sufficed to say, I'm a little pissed that a week of preparation is going to shit... Ugh. Postponed until after the holidays better not mean January. That'd be some cold filming outside.

This is bullshit. Registration has been open for a month, they shouldn't be canceling because of registration problems a day prior to start. If you put off registering till the last minute it should be your problem not everyone who has planned at least a month in advance for this. Locking locations, crew and talent takes some planning and dedication on everyone's and now to just postpone it till whenever... we better have at least a month in advanced notice of when they think they wanna try this again.

Freaking heck.
I am kind of glad they did postpone it cause I wasn't as prepared as I should have been. This will give me a bit more to gather my resources. I went out and got a new tripod today though. I need to see if I can rent the new HD cams from school...
@Rob, its freaking cold where I live now! Average temp is 54 degrees.

Out of all the 24/48 hour film festivals I've had the pleasure of preparing for and producing I have to say that this festival seemed doomed from the start. Upon reading the terms and under going the lengthy and lagging registration (due to underestimating the amount of students that would be interested perhaps?) it just felt a bit rushed and un-professional. This coming from an loyal Apple user I expected a lot more preparation in both server issues and registration details regarding the sign-up (a bit meager)
However aside from this set-back and disappointment for both the crew and myself we're going to push forward and shoot a film anyways because we have our actors, equipment, locations, and catering. We're not going to let incompetence get in our way. Thanks

Quite a disappointment after gathering up a team and preparing. This morning, we met up at a local donut shop at 6AM to get started, and didnt find out it was canceled till we arrived! We wrote a practice script anyways, and look forward to the actual event!
