Apple releases Trackpad firmware update for MacBook and MacBook Pro

If you are one of the early adopters who rushed out to purchase a MacBook/MacBook Pro, only to realize that the new Trackpad was a bit buggy, then you may be in for a treat. That's because Apple just released the much anticipated Trackpad fix for unrecognized clicks. Here's what Software Update tells us:

This firmware update addresses an issue where trackpad clicks may not be recognized on MacBook (Late 2008) and MacBook Pro (Late 2008) systems.

Apple notes that because this is a firmware update, you will need to follow the on-screen instructions after the download is completed through Software Update (Apple menu > Software Update). If you wish to download the installer file directly, you can do so by going to Apple's update download website. After you install the update, come back here and take part in our poll -- we would like to know if this took care of your Trackpad woes.

Thanks to everyone who sent in this tip!

after the 1.0 update, i lost drag-move function with mutiple selected items in finder.

i have the 2.4ghz model. trackpad was working well but i decided to update the software in the lappie.

but after updating the trackpad software, when i tried to drag-select(1 finger) photo files of the same date in finder (this part was ok), lifting my finger when i finished to pause and stop selecting other files, then dragging these selected files into another folder, it would deselect and reselect only the one file i had placed the cursor on, instead of dragging the whole bunch!

since osx doesn't have a cut or move function, i'm quite pissed i lost this drag-move function. someone has help to this problem? how do i roll back or uninstall the 1.0 update?

It looks like after installing the Firmware update this was left in my /Applications/Utilities folder. I was wondering if removing it is possible or will it break something? (by the way I have found a couple more firmware updates in the same folder)

I'm still experiencing contextual menus coming up frequently when I click.

Oh dear - I am in the minority here as the "fix" has not worked for me. Still, I went out and bought a Mac wireless mouse a couple of days ago and am happy not to need the load of %$£( that the trackpad seems to be. And why couldn't the "fix" let you select what you wanted to be "on" - specifically I need to be able to switch the infuriating zoom feature off and it cannot be done. You can unckeck the option or select one of the "zoom while holding" but nothing happens and when you go back to look it has reset itself to being "on".

On the bright side I love the screen and everything else about the unibody MacBook - much better than my MB White, which I loved by the way.

Never had any issues. I just purchased mine on 11/14/08. Everything works great.

For what it's worth, I didn't have any problem to begin with...In OS X. The only problem I had was in Windows. (Trackpad won't accept tap to click)
....And still won't after update. Oh well. I only boot to XP for light gaming anyway.

Now that the trackpad has been finally addressed, I can say w/ confidence:

- the MacBook is with out a doubt the best machine I've ever owned.

- the MacBook and MacBook Pro are the best computers on the market.

Hey Apple: Thanks! But please, try harder in refraining from selling half-baked tech in the future... this was pretty bad.

Now hurry your arses up w/ the 30-inch adapter!

I don't think I've clicked my MB Pro trackpad yet. I find that a one fingered tap works well for left click and a two fingered tap works well for a right click
