Mac OS X 10.5.6 is available via Software Update
Apple's support page and Software Update appear to be a little bit hammered --- you know what that means: A new OS update!
Mac OS X 10.5.6 has just been released to Software Update. The ~190 MB update (assuming you are already running the latest version of OS X) offers up the following, according to Apple's Support Page:
- Various improvements to performance and stability in Mail.app, iCal, Airport and Safari
- Graphical improvements
- DVD player performance improvements
- A new Trackpad panel in System Preferences for portable Macs
- Time Machine and MobileMe improvements
- Other various fixes.
The whole support page lays out the improvements with more accuracy than we often see from Apple and there are security updates too.
My download has just finished and my dock is bouncing, so I'm off to update my system. Post your results in the comments!
Thanks Tyler and Mike!

Mine weighs in at 377 megabytes. Not sure why, I was fully up to date before now.

That's because they've improved the reliability of chess :P (( For serious people who can't get a joke, yes I know GNU-chess libraries were updated recently ))

I think the smaller update is for the new Macbooks. Anyone with an old Macbook got the 190MB one?
I have an old one and got 377MB. And now, I'm restarting!

Oddly, I have a new MacBook Pro that had the 377 MB update, but my old MacBook had a 190MB update.
Not sure wtf is going on.

Yeah, my MB and the boyfriend's MB were both 190 (and mine is Mid-2007, his is late-2007) -- freaky!
Thus far, I haven't noticed any major improvements, but no problems either, so that's a plus!

I'm running a MacBook Pro mid-2007 and mine was 190MB. The size of the update could be for several reasons all depending upon the configuration and model of the machine as well as the installed software and drivers.

I just tried to do the 10.5.6 Update on two different Mac Pro 2.8Ghz Quad Core Intel boxes and it hangs on "Installing 1 item" "Configuring Installation" on both machines. Had to physically reboot them.
Now downloading the Combo Updater.

Same problem on a MacPro with 2 x 3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 16 GB 667 MHz DDR2 FB-DIMM.
Mine was originally running 10.4 and I updated to 10.5 about 2 months ago. The update hangs on Configuring Installation. I rebooted with the power button and tried again with the same result. I have the 190 Mb version of the update.
Has any figured this out?

i'm in the same boat! glad i'm not alone. stalls on the 'configuring update' part of it all.

I've been reading the MacRumors thread, and this seems to be associated with partial downloads. I'm guessing installing the combo updater instead will get past this.

Tried installing on a Quad Core 2.66 Mac Pro running Mac OS X 10.5.5.
It hung up on "configuring installation". Forced a restart by holding in the power button. Did this twice with same result. Seemed to restart fine.
Will go for the combo updater and see if that gives me better results...
