Mac OS X 10.5.6 is available via Software Update
Apple's support page and Software Update appear to be a little bit hammered --- you know what that means: A new OS update!
Mac OS X 10.5.6 has just been released to Software Update. The ~190 MB update (assuming you are already running the latest version of OS X) offers up the following, according to Apple's Support Page:
- Various improvements to performance and stability in Mail.app, iCal, Airport and Safari
- Graphical improvements
- DVD player performance improvements
- A new Trackpad panel in System Preferences for portable Macs
- Time Machine and MobileMe improvements
- Other various fixes.
The whole support page lays out the improvements with more accuracy than we often see from Apple and there are security updates too.
My download has just finished and my dock is bouncing, so I'm off to update my system. Post your results in the comments!
Thanks Tyler and Mike!

the os update (or maybe the security update) messed up my ability to access SQL databases online.
Does anyone know the email address for giving feedback to Apple about this sort of thing?
Ditto to Vaughn's comment above - to upgrade or not to upgrade? I'm on a G5 PPC tower, got the 190MB upgrade in Software Update. I've not really had any problems with 10.5.5, so is there any point me upgrading at all?

December 18 2008 at 9:40 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe update is failing to install on My Mac Mini 1.83Gz. Repeatedly getting a message about the certificate. It then causes Software Updater to crash. Any ideas what's up?
December 16 2008 at 8:03 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThis update wreaked iCal again (as did 10.5.4). iCal is empty and unable to quit. Although as before MobileMe and my iPhone are unaffected (thank goodness). Now I just need to set aside an hour or so to fix it:-(

This update broke mah Google Notifier. Boo!
Two years of using OS X and this is the first problem I've had with an update. So I'm not that miffed. But... I still "boo" :P
GPGMail plugin tripped me up as well, thanks for the tip. Other than that, no issues with the Software Update install on MBP.
