Woz gets a new job
First, he's been making bad web ads for SCOTTEVEST. Next, we received pictures of Woz whizzing from the deck of his Segway. He was fined US$700 for driving his Prius at 104 miles per hour (167 kilometers per hour) on I-5. At last, we've received news that he's actually using that geek cred of his for the good of mankind.
Yes, Stephen Gary Wozniak has just joined the Board of Advisors of Axiotron, makers of the Modbook (that's the mod that turns a stock MacBook into a Tablet Mac).
Andreas Haas, CEO of Axiotron, was quoted late last week as saying "We're thrilled to bring Steve onto our Board of Advisors. His deep knowledge and experience are an invaluable resource for Axiotron. Steve's forward-thinking and non-conformist approach, his incredibly creative engineering designs and his emphasis on the human aspects of technology have always been an inspiration to me."
We'll be visiting Axiotron and reporting on the newly updated Modbook at Macworld Expo 2009, as well as interviewing some well-known artists and designers who use the Modbook as a creative tool. Stay tuned January 5th through 9th for TUAW's extensive coverage of the Expo.

Woz is an incredible person. As others have mentioned above, he's done a lot for humanity and "just folks" with his Apple money - the US festivals, his work with schools and his contributions to The Arts in San Jose. Yes, there is a Woz Way, named for him. One of my fondest memories is going to the San Jose Ballet a few years ago to watch The Nutcracker. Before the actual dancing begins there are some short bits that set the scene: A street scene in winter, kids and adults heading into the house, eating, drinking - a lot of pantomime. For many years there was Steve Wozniak playing the walk-on role of a chestnut vendor pushing his cart of chestnuts. Wow! Even though we knew who it was, he still looked like a little kid who has the choicest role in the school play.
Some commenters have said that he's lost his engineering brilliance and this is true to some extent. After all he crashed his airplane on takeoff in the early 80s and walked away from the demolished plane. If it were me, I'd feel lucky to be alive, much less losing some part of my memory.
The link to MODBOOK is not working right it has an ( in it

i hope he convinces them to make them cheaper. i have an old powerbook screaming for a makeover.

December 22 2008 at 1:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyand about that "Albert" that make that tshirts with that e=mc2... he is still useful?
Your comment was usefool at least ;)
Can someone give me a primer or real brief summary on what's up with this guy? Did he have a falling out with Steve Jobs? Does he still have any financial ties to Apple? He seems to be the opposite, in terms of liking mods, hacks, and jailbreaking and whatnot.
i just really hope they a real keyboard on these things. that was the key thing that stopped me from getting on. (and the prices... sheeesh, apple tax my butt)

One only has to drive on Woz Way here in San Jose to be reminded of that.
Dear God,
Please do not allow an internet site to publish a photo of me urinating or defecating no matter how famous and/or geeky I become.
Amen
How on earth is this not a conflict of interest? lol
December 22 2008 at 11:16 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat interests are in conflict here, exactly? Woz is not an Apple employee.
