Apple issues Mail update for users experiencing problems
If you were one of the many users who upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.6 soon after it came out, then you might have experienced some major problems on your Mac. Fortunately, Apple has admitted there were issues with the update. Now there are more updates to fix the problems. Last night, Apple released a Mail update for users experiencing problems with Mail unexpectedly quitting. "This can be caused by using a copy of Mail that wasn't updated properly (you may need to install the Mail Update)," the update page states.
If you have been experiencing problems with Mail.app post-10.5.6, then you can install the update by visiting the Support Downloads website and download the installer package.
Thanks to everyone who sent this in!

Shouldn't Apple be checking these "Updates" a little closer???
Anyway, what is up with these frequent updates and a "new OS" every
12-14 months or so?
Does this sound like someone else we know..........?

Vista took like 7 years buddy.
Unless your making some obscure reference no one will catch on to...?

A new OS every 12-14 months? Surely you can't be talking about Microsoft-let's-take-nearly-a-decade-to-update-our-OS?

What about those having problems pre-10.5.6 ? My Dot Mac, sorry, MobileMe account can't send attachments anymore. I suppose this is MobileMe and not Mail.app but apparently the issue isn't covered by AppleCAre since it's a MobileMe issue. I was told I have to troll the MobileMe forums for solutions
That seems like a shifty way to handle a problem.

LOL apple care doesn't cover Mobile Me! Oh thank you so much, you made my night! XD

So you can't send attachments regardless of whether you're using Mail.app, Safari, Firefox, or someone else's computer? If that's the case, then something is probably wrong with your account, and Apple should be able to step in to help you...especially if it's consistent between different machines. Otherwise, see if you can make an appointment at an Apple Store; they'll help if AppleCare refuses for some reason.

If you're having trouble with MobileMe, go to the MobileMe support pages, click on any of the answers and where it asks at the bottom of the page if this page helped you, click "no". You'll be offered live chat with someone from the MobileMe team who has access to be able to reset your account and fix other MobileMe-side stuff. They'll walk you through what to do on your end while they take care of the other end.
It can take a bit of time.

Thanks Puhsitch and Clifford. That's really helpful. I wish that was more evident from the MobileMe support site.
Happy Holidays!

Thank God for this update. Ever since the update to 10.5.6, Mail has been asking for me to re-enter mail passwords nearly every time it checks for mail. Coupled with many accounts, it has been extremely irritating.

I'm not having a problem with mail quitting unexpectadly. I've ALWAYS had a problem with mail refusing to quit at all. 90% of the time I have to force quit it.

Hmmm, I wonder if it helps those of us who have had this prior to 10.5.6... My mail likes to crash, and then crash immediately upon restarting. The only way I can get it to start back up is to hold down shift while it launches, to prevent it from loading a message. And really oddly, after doing that I can select the message it would have selected and crashed, without it crashing...

That's a WebKit error, not a Mail.app error. There's one central WebKit bundle, and it's located off-site, not belonging to any app in particular. If you installed the Safari 4 beta (I'll bet you did), then you'll be experiencing exactly those symptoms; Mail.app isn't built to run with Safari 4's experimental WebKit bundle. Just uninstall Safari 4 (meaning you have to go back to Safari 3.2.1). A better alternative to Safari 4 would be the WebKit nightly build, anyway. Hope that helps. :]
