Apple issues Mail update for users experiencing problems

If you were one of the many users who upgraded to Mac OS X 10.5.6 soon after it came out, then you might have experienced some major problems on your Mac. Fortunately, Apple has admitted there were issues with the update. Now there are more updates to fix the problems.

Last night, Apple released a Mail update for users experiencing problems with Mail unexpectedly quitting. "This can be caused by using a copy of Mail that wasn't updated properly (you may need to install the Mail Update)," the update page states.

If you have been experiencing problems with Mail.app post-10.5.6, then you can install the update by visiting the Support Downloads website and download the installer package.

Hmmm, I wonder if it helps those of us who have had this prior to 10.5.6... My mail likes to crash, and then crash immediately upon restarting. The only way I can get it to start back up is to hold down shift while it launches, to prevent it from loading a message. And really oddly, after doing that I can select the message it would have selected and crashed, without it crashing...

That's a WebKit error, not a Mail.app error. There's one central WebKit bundle, and it's located off-site, not belonging to any app in particular. If you installed the Safari 4 beta (I'll bet you did), then you'll be experiencing exactly those symptoms; Mail.app isn't built to run with Safari 4's experimental WebKit bundle. Just uninstall Safari 4 (meaning you have to go back to Safari 3.2.1). A better alternative to Safari 4 would be the WebKit nightly build, anyway. Hope that helps. :]

I'm not having a problem with mail quitting unexpectadly. I've ALWAYS had a problem with mail refusing to quit at all. 90% of the time I have to force quit it.

Thank God for this update. Ever since the update to 10.5.6, Mail has been asking for me to re-enter mail passwords nearly every time it checks for mail. Coupled with many accounts, it has been extremely irritating.

What about those having problems pre-10.5.6 ? My Dot Mac, sorry, MobileMe account can't send attachments anymore. I suppose this is MobileMe and not Mail.app but apparently the issue isn't covered by AppleCAre since it's a MobileMe issue. I was told I have to troll the MobileMe forums for solutions

That seems like a shifty way to handle a problem.

Shouldn't Apple be checking these "Updates" a little closer???
Anyway, what is up with these frequent updates and a "new OS" every
12-14 months or so?
Does this sound like someone else we know..........?
