Huckabee dumps PC for Mac
Former Presidential candidate and Arkansas ex-Governor Mike Huckabee has traded in his PC for a MacBook. He talked about in on his Sunday Fox News Channel Show, Here's a link to the YouTube video. Huckabee praises the staff at the New York Apple Store who got his Macbook set up.
President-elect Obama's team also favors Apple gear, and John McCain, well, he relies on help from his wife when it comes to technology.

Wow. I'm not a John McCain fan but was that comment necessary? The man is disabled and relies on other people for help.
This was in poor taste and adds to the agruments that bloggers can not, will not and should not ever be taken seriously.
(BTW, everyone at fox uses a Mac so I'm not sure he was really given a choice).

Absolutely necessary, makes for great comments full with bitching and rambling.

Let him talk. He has every right to make jokes. You're not just because you're republican and forgot how to.

It's about using technology, not about what he physically can and cannot do. McCain's from an older generation, and many of them have not entirely embraced computers. I know he has arm injuries that left him disabled, but from what I see on TV, he looks like he still has good motor skills in his hands and could probably type and use a mouse if he wanted to learn. I don't hold it against him, though. He could have an assistant help him out, which is fine. Both Bushes and Clinton weren't so big on technology, either. It's better to have a computer literate president, all things being equal, but I'd sooner focus on major policy stances and what the person's voting record and past are like.
For the record, I voted for Obama and I'm pretty liberal. However, I respect McCain's service in the Navy and agree his disabilities and horrible experiences in the Vietnamese prison camp are nothing to ever mock. The writer of the post most likely was saying McCain is not big on computers and has his wife help him when he needs to do something online.

Did you follow the link to the Mahalo page? McCain himself said "I'm a computer illiterate." It has literally nothing to do with his injuries, as other commenters have pointed out.

I also think Mel Martin is taking a dig at McCain. The "well, he relies on help..." and the link to "McCain Computer Illiterate News" clearly shows the direction the poster is leading the reader.
For those that think the above is appropriate... Perhaps you'd like to see jokes about crack-heads, and nicotine addiction associated with Obama who freely admits that he can't stay away from a smoke or his crackberry.
Neither is funny, or appropriate on a blog such as TUAW. I'm sure there are computer savy senior citizens or diabled Americans who frequent this blog for Apple news. That's great. No need to single out people so you can have a laugh at their expense.
Huckabee gave kudos to the NYC Apple store. That's awesome for Apple. If you want to take a cheap shot at a politician, post on a political blog.

@Burk ferden
"Ad Hominem" - go look it up.
I'm not a Republican, and I actually very much dislike John McCain. I do have to agree with MacSE88 in that there was very clearly some intent at malice in many of the "computer illiterate" comments made against John McCain.
I would love to one day see a political world without personal attacks - can you imagine politicians ONLY focusing on politics? I sure as hell can't...

GTFO MacSE88.

huckabee's a homophobic religious fundamentalist, but at least he's got good taste in computers -- it means there's hope! and for the record, even though his beliefs are something i personally find horrendous, i think he's the most personable, actually likeable conservative candidate i've seen in decades.

And who doesn't enjoy a likeable, personable homophobic radical fundamentalist?
Zimmie said 4:36PM on 1-12-2009
He's too crazy for the Freepers. I find that somewhat disturbing considering the sort of rhetoric on that site. As a result, though, I doubt he's ever going to be a serious candidate.
Michael said 3:27PM on 1-12-2009
Yeah Mel, it was really an unnecessary snide remark.

Well said, Ant.
He was joking about his illiteracy (in the context of his disability). Just to remind you, he was wounded in the service, tortured in a Vietnamese prison.
Also, he was one of the first to deal with Internet legislation.
Really, it pays to check your sources thoroughly first.

Wow... incredibly low blow there. I didn't vote for McCain but that was mean. You guys keep stuff like that up it might be time to dump your blog.

It's not a low blow. John McCain is a senior citizen who doesn't know how to use a computer. There's nothing unusual about that, except that he ran for president and therefore it's perfectly open for comparison between other presidential candidates like Huckabee and Obama.
joe said 3:44PM on 1-12-2009
Oh please. McCain could use a computer if he wanted to. Ever heard of all the special handicap access features like VoiceOver on a mac? Last time I checked Stephen Hawking was able to use a computer.
