Mac OS 10.5.7 update now available
Apple just dropped 10.5.7 on us (a little late by some guesses), via Software Update (you can get to it under the Apple menu). Here's the blurb:The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac. For detailed information about security updates, please visit this website.
I notice a lot of sync-related "reliability" fixes here, some nice additions to the parental controls, a Gmail login fix, and widget updates (yeah, some people use those). Full details here. Enjoy!

It's the first thing I disable when using Mac OS X, dashboard is so incredibly useless.

I use em now and then. However disabling Dashboard is for nerds who think RAM is to be left untouched, not used.

As a weather nut and someone who loves to see what is showing at my local theater, widgets are awesome. If they weren't awesome, why would Gadgets have been "invented"?

I disabled it on my iMac G3, but use it on my MacBook Pro. The iMac is using a "streamlined" OS X so it runs more efficiently.

Me.

I don't use them and I always disable the Dashboard on a fresh install but I wouldn't dream of telling someone else how to use his/her/its computer. If you like widgets, by all means, use them.

Upgrade went smooth. Nothing noticeable yet, but I do think OS overall a little faster or maybe it's just fresh boot.

Who cares? I keep getting excited for Apple's releases, but the truth is that after X.x.1 and X.x.2, there's nothing but stability tweaks. 10.5.6 is running just fine for me. There's nothing in this package that makes me want to run home and download it. It would be nice if Apple added a nugget here and there of additional feature. Even Windows Service Packs often introduce new features.

@oliver Funny. It's just odd because I own an insane amount of Apple gear, but I can't understand why people are posting "finally!" or "I've been waiting for this!" as though there's actually something to wait for. I've never heard anyone say "Man, I've been waiting for those stability tweaks regarding widgets for some time!"

Yeah I don't understand why this pending 10.5.7 update got so much attention from the Apple rumor blogs. I guess it's the slow season. Having been burnt once before as an early adopter of sub-version updates, I'm going to wait a week or two until the third-party apps that will invariably stop functioning have a chance to release their updates.

Guys, the reason people were waiting for 10.5.7 was because the iPhone 3.0 beta testers lost ability to sync Notes from the iPhone after beta 3 was released. The requirement set by Apple was that iPhone 3.0 beta 5 is required in addition to 10.5.7. So, for those devs, this was a pretty important release. It's a hefty update too, I guess alot of tweaks were made.

There is. The graphics drivers on the new Mac Pro.

well, if you're directly affected by a problem in the OS... say.. 10.5.6's HUGE memory buffer fail for USB transfers over a certain amount, then you would be very happy to see the update. I know myself and every other professional photographer shooting with tethered capture doesnt like it when things crash after 100 shots or so.

Anyone try this on their DellEFI Mini 9 installs yet? I'd rather not kill mine presently.
