Software Update: 10.6.1 debuts

Although it seems like just yesterday (or at least a few days ago) that Snow Leopard debuted, the hotly anticipated 10.6.1 has just hit the ground running. 10.6.1 introduces a number of bug fixes and tweaks for "the stability, compatibility, and security" of your Mac. Highlights include:
  • Printer compatibility enhancements for printers that do not properly appear in the Add Printer browser.
  • Bug fix for DVD playback (when playback stops abruptly)
  • Bug fix for the Dock (bug prevents removal of icons from the Dock)
  • Bug fix for account set up and sending mail via SMTP servers in Mail
  • Bug fix for Sierra Wireless 3G modems
  • Adobe Flash Player update (new plug-in version 10.0.32.18)
The Flash update is particularly important. "Multiple issues exist in the Adobe Flash Player plug-in, the most serious of which may lead to arbitrary code execution when viewing a maliciously crafted web site. The issues are addressed by updating the Flash Player plug-in to version 10.0.32.18." Further information is available via the Adobe web site.

The download is now live via Software Update.

I found the fix for the SubmitDiagInfo problem was just to let it sit for 30 mins or so (could have taken less time, I went for lunch) and let it finish. Hasn't bothered me again, but it is pretty unacceptable that it happened in the first place.

I also deleted all the crash reports, that might have helped stop it again as Safari doesn't crash now, which it did a couple of times before the 10.6.1

Still no option to change the disk space settings back to the way the rest of the world does it, with 1024 bytes per KB? So the file sizes I see in Finder agree with what all the Windows users I have to deal with see?

I guess my upgrade will wait at least for 10.6.2, then.

They've broken a fundamental measure of interoperability with this. I tell someone I'm sharing a file with them that's 3.2 MB, I expect them to see the same number when they have it. Otherwise we're talking different languages.

Still no love for the Canon BJNP protocol for Network Printing. IJNP works fantastic natively for Networked Scanning but I'm afraid Canon are going to make me install their ridiculously useless bloatware in order to print over the network.

How should we know? We do not have *your* external hard drives, and *mine* work perfectly fine.

Is the issue with overheating MBP resolved. Since SL upgrade, my fans never go below 4500RPM, ever!

I am so happy with the 10.6.1 update. My browser finally is more stable using Flash.

Everything works for me and I couldn't be happier.

On my (Early 2009 white) MacBook the update was, as you said, about 9 MB. On my (first-gen aluminum) iMac however the update was ~75 MB.
