Seinfeld back with the Mac in latest Curb episode

Didn't it seem like it was ages ago that those Microsoft commercials with Jerry Seinfeld and Bill Gates commercials aired? You know, the one with the shopping for shoes, as well as the one with the duo bonding with a family. Don't remember? Well, apparently neither does Jerry Seinfeld, who was purportedly paid USD $10 million for the commercials.
In the latest episode of HBO's Curb Your Enthusiasm -- which happens to be one of my all time favorite shows -- Jerry is actively discussing ideas with Seinfeld creator, Larry David. In the scene, a MacBook Pro is prominently shown on Jerry's desk.

Getting paid to pimp a product doesnt mean you actually have to use it does it?
I would gladly do a windows commercial for 10 million even though I use a Mac.

As far as I know, yes and no. Endorsements are a tricky business. Can you imagine if Jerod didn't actually eat a Subway? The FTC has thrown the hammer down in cases before so companies need to be careful about who and how their products are endorsed.
The FTC throws the most attention at health care and safety ads (which is why you see so much legalese on drug commercials and car ads). In this case, it's a little less cut and dried since the ads never really showed him actually using the product in the commercial. If the ads had mentioned, "Jerry uses Windows to do this..." that may actually be true and Microsoft would have to substantiate the claim but the worst that may happen is Microsoft pulls the ads. Nobody is getting killed because Jerry endorsed their product and now he doesn't.

Gotta love this world/country. Someone gets paid 10 million to do a few days of work, other people bust their ass their whole lives and make maybe half.
AWESOME.

Yes.. it IS awesome. You have the freedom to do whatever the hell you want. If you want to be an actor and get paid millions, GO DO IT and quit whining about it. Just because you work at Taco bell, don't knock the people who take chances and the country that allows that kind of success.... douchebag.

once you all have universal healthcare and free/cheap education then you can call him a douchbag. right now you're just perpetuating the disparity as freedom myth.

Dave you're a moron.
You're absolutely right. Anyone who wants to make millions or get a high (hell even decent paying job) just has to go out there and get it!!
The 10% unemployed in this country just clearly ARE NOT trying.
The people who have college educations but cannot find work that pays more than 30K a year just AREN'T trying.
What are you, like 45 years old? Get back in touch with reality. Success isn't determined just by effort.

I'm thinking that Apple must be thrilled that it wasn't Jerry who peed on Jesus' portrait in this episode.

Jerry never said he used a PC in the ads so he really endorsed nothing. He just chatted with Bill Gates and did some amusing stuff. The ads were never about Windows or Microsoft products. So he did nothing and made $10M. What's new?
He may have a PC somewhere collecting dust that Bill gave him or his mac has Office on it. That would cover it.
This is also why the ads failed, but MS has no idea about advertising.

He did one of the HP ads when The Bee Movie was about to come out a couple years ago. He was quite clearly saying that he used a PC in that one. Not that I care and I have both a PC and a Mac myself so wouldn't put it past Seinfeld to have both as well.

If you watch the credits of Bee Movie, it was made on HP computers with AMD processors.

not newsworthy... nobody uses PC's.. just banks, offices and hardcore gamers..

OK, take a step back for a sec. I know we all (or most of us) here love our Macs far more than anything that ships with Windows, but the words "nobody uses PCs" don't make much sense in any context when Windows still has 90%+ share of all personal and business computers.
mike said 11:59AM on 10-29-2009
actually, the business market is about 70% of the market. that's huge. when it comes to actual PEOPLE, the 30%, Apple's 10% share in the US looks alot nicer.
Obviously those are just US numbers, reflecting the developed world's attitude towards Macs. I'm living in China, and hardly anyone has a Mac here. It's a developing country, that's why. They also steal lots of software and use 1997 computers. This is PC Country ;)

Wasn't Jerry also in one of the original switch ads?
