Inventory screenshot from Microcenter shows imminent MacBook Pro updates

Apple System Good-USA MC371LL/A $1799.99
Mac system #1 Best-USA MC373LL/A $2199.99
Mac system #2 Best-USA MC024LL/A $2299.99
Mac system Better- USA MC372LL/A $1999.99
These prices seem to indicate updated 15" and 17" MacBook Pros, presumably updated with the latest i5 and i7 Intel processors. MacRumors says they have received independent confirmation of this info from Microcenter. This latest indication of a MacBook Pro update comes less than a week after an earlier leak from a Taiwanese newspaper which claimed MacBook Pro updates are coming later this month. There doesn't appear to be any information on the 13" MacBook; it's unclear whether that means updates for that product are coming later on or product information has yet to hit Microcenter's inventory system.
The current line of MacBook Pros hasn't seen significant updates since June of 2009, so many potential buyers have been eagerly awaiting an update to the line for several months. Given this latest information from Microcenter, it looks as though the long wait may be over very soon.

Good to hear. I'd really like to see i5/i7 MBPs sometime soon. I need a new mac for school, so I'm hoping for a solid update sometime between now and August.
The school I'm going to has a laptop program where I can get a Lenovo Thinkpad that would probably have an i7 in it... I'm hoping Apple's new ones will be able to match or exceed the school's laptop specs....
Dear Apple, don't forget to upgrade the Mini!!!!!!

April 11 2010 at 1:16 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhat really bothers me is that Apple still sells the macbook pros online and in stores for full price right up until the new ones come out. At least discount them or something or if you buy one and a new model comes out within 30 days then give an Apple rebate or store gift card. I was in an Apple store checking out the Ipad when i witnessed someone buying a 17" MBP i wanted to say something like you should wait there are updates coming, and of course if you ask an employee they play dumb. I understand that its Apples policy and how they work. But think about it if they discounted the old ones a little maybe it would bring more people over to Apple. There will still be people like me who will buy the more expensive i5 and i7s but for people who dont really want it discount the Core Duos and bring more people over to the Apple. Just a thought that has probably been thought a million times, anyway I can't wait for the updates.
April 11 2010 at 12:07 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyBeing in the market for a new Macbook Pro, I hope this refresh hits very soon; I can't see myself shelling out ~$2k for a Core 2 Duo when Core i5/i7 laptops have been out for a while now.
April 11 2010 at 9:47 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI have been desperately waiting for new MBP's and even bought a new 2.8 17" hoping it would be worth the upgrade from my 2.6. With the plethora of $1000 i5/i7 notebooks showing. I bought a Dell Studio XPS16 for an employee and have been loading it up to send to her and have run some tests against my MBP using Parallels 5.0. Our main application is a single threaded app and my 2.8 is still faster than the i5-430 in this application. This revelation caught me a bit by surprise. I thought the i5/i7 brought more than multiple cores to the table and were much faster clock for clock than the C2D, but that is not what I am seeing.
BTW, This Dell at $999 is a very nice machine. Apple desperately needs to step up their game. I have been a fanboy for a long time, but the PC with Windows 7 is a huge step up on the PC side and is becoming very tempting. The iPad actually makes it very tempting to go back to a PC laptop for work and just stay with my Mac Pro/iPad/AppleTV setup at home.
Core i5 chips are not all quad cores, the 400 series for instance are all dual-cores; that said, if they are not necessarily faster than Core 2 Duo chips, they do run much cooler and use less power (two things I think we can all agree that are much welcomed in laptops).
Depending on the chip model, they can also bring Hyperthreading (4 threads for a dual-core, 8 threads for a quad-core) and TurboBoost, but I'm unsure what model your employee's XPS 16 uses.
IF Apple pulls a "3rd Gen iPod Touch" update on the MacBook Pros and upgrades the 15" and 17" ONLY and just rebrands the 13" as a "new model with same specs as last gen" i'm going to be pissed.
I've been waiting since December for these to be updated and I don't have the money for a 15", let alone a 17".
I hope Apple upgrades them across the line completely. If not, it's Apple refurb store for me.
MacBook Pro's could definitely use a refresh.

April 10 2010 at 10:39 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySo so true. Couldn't help but laugh when I read this. I always seem to end up buying a new MacBook and then a month later, Blam! new model. Just got a new Unibody 17" a few weeks ago. Imagine that. Twice in a row now.
