Another MacBook Air EFI firmware update available

Apple has released MacBook Air EFI Firmware Update 2.0 for the newest MacBook Airs. The update addresses "a rare issue where MacBook Air boots or wakes to a black screen or becomes unresponsive," according to Apple, and it's a 2MB download that you can find either at the link above or via Software Update.

This is the second firmware update in as many months for the new MacBook Air; an earlier update, released just as the models began shipping, addressed faults with the MacBook Air's graphics. Just like that earlier firmware update, today's will require a restart, and Apple advises that you "do not disturb or shut off the power on your MacBook Air during this update."

Came out to my office to find my MBA unresponsive. Forced restart, did the firmware update, confirmed the update, left and came back an hour later with a completely unresponsive computer! So much for that firmware update helping my MBA.

I tried installing it 3 times, and each time it said it installed successfully, but then beed oddly on reboot, and rebooted itself 3 times before finally coming up (apparently with no new EFI).

I finally plugged in power and tried again, and that time it seemed to "take".

Yes, firmware updates require plugged power. I actually got a dialog saying so when I did the upgrade.

Yes- you get a dialog that power is recommended, but as I mentioned it installed, gave me a successful install dialog, and then failed on the reboot (when i assume it does the actual install) but with no error or notification that it failed.

I'm just posting a PSA for anyone that might have thought they installed successfully. Power is apparently REQUIRED vs. RECMMENDED.

Used to get that problem with my MacBook. I may have seen it earlier tonight on my new MacBook Pro, but it's possible that the computer was just still in the process of going to sleep when I opened it quickly after closing it.

It only happened when my MacBook had a password enabled for waking from screensaver/sleep.
