Talkcast tonight, 7 PM PT/10 PM ET: iPad 2 Event Edition!
It's that time again kids, and this week we have TONS to talk about! We had a media event which included not just an official appearance by Medical Leave Steve, but loads of Apple news as well! We got our first look at the iPad 2, and a peek at iOS 4.3. Add to that the launch of Joint Venture and sightings of the new Thunderbolt laptops in the wild, and it's been quite the week to be a Mac geek.
Remember it's "buy one get one free" when I'm hosting: Come for the show, and stay for the aftershow! A healthy dose of TUAWTF is a very good way to wrap up the weekend.
Your calls and questions help us make the show the best it can be, otherwise I'm just talking to myself! To participate on TalkShoe, you can use the browser-only client, the embedded Facebook app, or download the classic TalkShoe Pro Java client; however, for maximum fun, you should call in. For the web UI, just click the TalkShoe Web button on our profile page at 4 HI/7 PDT/10 PM EDT Sunday. To call in on regular phone or VoIP lines (yay for free cell phone weekend minutes!): dial (724) 444-7444 and enter our talkcast ID, 45077 -- during the call, you can request to talk by keying in *8.
If you've got a headset or microphone handy on your Mac, you can connect via the free Gizmo or X-Lite SIP clients; basic instructions are here. Talk to you tonight!

All that whining about iTunes "the program."
Apple uses iTunes and the 30 pin connectors to lock in owners of iOS devices. Best I can tell, iTunes itself is a front end to an SQLite or similar database, but you're smokin' something funny if you think Apple is going to forfeit the "lock in" and "control" part, which is what makes iTunes suck, to the extent it does.
Apple could easily let us have access to the file system on iOS devices, making copying music, videos, addresses, text, WHATEVER, on and off as easy as it is on my Android, a Nexus One.
But that's NOT the "Apple way." When it works (and it mostly does), having to connect an iOS device (or iPod) to iTunes is merely an annoyance. When it doesn't, and for those Windows folks out there, it apparently doesn't all too often, it is much worse than a mere annoyance.
So you want separate programs to sync APPs, Music, Videos, and back up your phones and iOS gear? Finder does all that, just fine, when I plug in my USB Android phone. Drag and drop, I'm done. Not on iOS. Not in a zillion years. Not ever.
@Kelly
I think a number of us readers expressed our displeasure at your flippant line about Steve. Apparently you either didn't get the message or you are in effect giving us the finger.
If the latter is the case-back at you!
This show starts too late for a Sunday show here on the east coast. It should be on Saturday's. Just like tuaw live show starts at five as we leave work. Just bad timing all around.
