Apple rumored to unveil new MacBook Airs in June or July

Digitimes reports that Apple will introduce new MacBook Airs this June or July. The site states that Apple will introduce new 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch MacBook Air models that will include Thunderbolt ports and Intel's Sandy Bridge processors.

This latest Digitimes report substantiates rumors from CNET of a June Sandy Bridge MacBook Air update that first surfaced as far back as February. In late April, a Concord Securities analyst stated that Apple is set to begin mass production on new models of the MacBook Air in May, which would coincide with a June launch.

Since the MacBook Air was revamped last October, it's quickly become one of Apple's hottest-selling laptops, and one would expect that Apple would want to have new models on the market to entice buyers during the back-to-school buying season, which typically begins in late June/early July.

Also hoping they bring back the backlit keyboard - and another upgrade would be the higher res cams that were included in the MBP update.

FInally - beating a dead horse here but I still think my ideal machine is an MBA 15.

I'm looking to get the 13" for app and web development. My 3 year old Mac mini just isn't cutting it anymore.

I made three transactions a while back and it has been the best working solution for me. I sold both my 2009 MBP 15" and my iPad (1) and purchased the 13" MBA best model. I do a lot of documents and presentations and while iPad was neat it was difficult to build a good preso or edit a document properly. My MBP was getting heavy...The resolution of the new MBA sold me big time. Awesome machine, small and light enough to not be a burden and powerful enough to get what I need done. Best decision in a while!

I'll probably be upgrading my 3.5-year-old 15" MBP for one of these. They're pretty much the perfect computer for me since I never use optical discs with my laptop and would prefer something thinner and lighter.

Hopefully back-lit keyboard this time?
I know it reduces battery time, but surely the option to use it would be nice. Also be nice for the 11" to have a 256GB option. Smaller size doesn't necessarily mean we want smaller capacity.

This is going to reignite the MBA vs iPad decision again. There is a lot that I like about the MBA but the current processors are certainly gutless so I think the iPad would give the better overall experience. So far I haven't bought either but I'm definitely feeling in the need for a mobile computing device with a screen bigger than my current 3GS.

Hey Kelmon - FYI - I have both. One is a reader with limited computing capabilities and one is a computer. If you're doing a lot of word processing or using Excel, Outlook etc - the iPad won't cut it. It's great as a reader, ebooks, mail, safari, Skype, Facetime - but if you need to work on documents - I would definitely get the MBA.

When I'm out of the Office at a client - I will have both. I use the MBA to do documents and/or to access my Desktop through LogMeIn - and the iPad for simple note taking, if required.

Good luck with your decision.

yes, perhaps. we use iPads here at my house for the common area public computer, so its usually laying on an end table or somewhere, and it's also used for road trips. I will be getting my gf a new mba however, and maybe my mom too, bc they do not have big computing needs, mainly browsing and occasional light spreadsheet use. they also keep all their music on their phones and their pics online, so disc space is practically nil. So for them, who are both using nearly 5 year old PC's, this thin, sexy, ultra lightweight (and hopefully snappier) mba will their golden goose. plus they both have iphone 4's so this will def make their lives easier. Also, they both have access to a wifi printer, but their current machines can't talk to it, and they print often.

yet still no love for the mac mini after 11 months. it's like the redheaded stepchild of macs.

I suspect it is getting a full hardware redesign.

Don't worry, this year will be good to the mac mini. iMac just got the i-series cpu's, mac mini is next. My biggest gripe is that imac, mini and mbp should all have blu-ray drives for netflix rentals :(

New mini will run Lion, have 4Gb-8Gb RAM, offer either dual dore i5 or quad core i7, have thunderbolt I/O and have a SSD option as well.
