Lion 10.7.1 now available in Software Update (Updated)

The long-awaited first update to OS X Lion, version 10.7.1, has just hit Software Update.

The update is relatively small, weighing in at 17.4 MB for an iMac, and requires a reboot after installation. Apple recommends backing up your Mac prior to updating.

The update:

  • Addresses an issue that may cause the system to become unresponsive when playing a video in Safari.
  • Resolves an issue that may cause system audio to stop working when using HDMI or optical audio out
  • Improves the reliability of Wi-Fi connections
  • Resolves an issue that prevents transfer of your data, settings, and compatible applications to a new Mac running OS X Lion.

Additional notes can be found here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4764.

Internet sharing to devices using Wifi from my updated iMac still fails. Lion is Apple's Vista.

Any reports that this corrects the Mail POP issue where it refuses to connect?

Even after the update my WiFi is still dropping out, not while waking from sleep but right in the middle of working. I did have an issue with bluetooth disconnecting, but that only happened a couple of times. I really hope they fix this in 10.7.2.

Anybody checked if there is a way to disable autosave/versions now?
Or if Mission Control can be replaced with old good expose+spaces?
Or if the "Reopen wiindows after login" checkbox stays unselected?

Thanks

Ha. This explains why Setup Assistant and Migration Assistant didn't work for me w my new Air. I initially was told by a Genius that I could do the setup/migration myself, it was easy, and would be better than leaving it for a few days at the store because it would be done in a few hours overnight. But.... it didn't work. I spent several hours trying to go through Setup / Migration / Restore re-attempts and troubleshooting, and searched every blog and support resource I could find. Three weeks, 1 hour on phone w 2 Apple Care reps, 3 hours w 4 Geniuses later ..... I was convinced there was problem with one of my computer(s) and with my Time Capsule. I couldn't migrate to my new Air from either my Time Capsule or from my old MBP. One-On-One subscription saved day, I left the 2 laptops with them and 7 days later got them back (they called with status update after 4 days... still working on it.... They had to do manually transfer my account, files, and applications). Was told by Geniuses that the problem was a) my Time Capsule / Time Machine backup was corrupted, and I should wipe the drive and back up from new Air and b) my old MBP was too full (had 7GB available on 110GB drive), and c) because my old MBP was too full it couldn't be updated with recent software updates that would enable it to migrate correctly. No one at Apple knew there was a known issue. But someone must have, if there was an OS update that addressed it within 4 days of my getting computer back from the Genius Bar.

I guess I'm just one of those boring old geeks who finds most of the new goodies usable - matches up well with my iPad use - knocked off a couple things I didn't like and rearranged the rest to suit me. Just as I have been doing for over a quarter-century with the computing side of geekdom.

Only the last six years with OS X - and never looked back.

It doesn't fix the bug of iCal shared calendars, neither the full screen mode that eat top window underneath, neither Mission Control dual monitor window moving.
It doesn't give us just a simple Launchpad manager.

But I'll stick to Lion 'cause it's the best OS environment I ever experienced - and I'm in since Apple IIe.

I've been an avid Mac user since 1998.

I was slow adopting Snow Leopard, and the more I learn about Lion, the more I don't like. About the ONLY feature I still like is 'mission control'.

Lion may very well be the first Mac OS update I may just skip altogether.
