iTunes 10.5.1 available, iTunes Match opens up

Apple has released iTunes 10.5.1 for immediate download through Apple's site with iTunes Match available. It's not available via Software Update yet, and we will have the full changelog up shortly.

iTunes Match is now available as a feature in iTunes and users can subscribe for US$24.99. It's listed as a beta feature, and beta subscribers are warned that their iCloud libraries will be deleted at the end of the beta. To thank beta testers for their participation, Apple is offering them an additional three months on their subscription.

iTunes Match was announced alongside iOS 5 this summer and originally scheduled to debut at the end of October. Apple missed that goal, but the service is finally available as of today.

Problems I have found so far: Calculated album ratings don't work.
Older "single of the week" tracks that had DRM are wiped out, to be replaced with downloads of the regular (non-drm) versions. These tracks no longer contain the comments I created, and also lost their ratings.

They changed the scrolling directions in the windows back to normal. ("natural" or not I forget which it is). Now it's back to the Snow Leopard style in the iPhone sync windows whereas for a little while they tried forcing the new scrolling in Lion in that area (even running Snow Leopard). Thankfully, I might add.

Software Update has the new version, but iTunes Match is NOT available.
I got this message when trying to sign up.. "iTunes Match is temporarily not accepting new subscribers. Check back later."

I don't see any mention of this being a beta feature. Where is that? I hope that is your mistake!

Does anybody know of a way around the 25,000 non-iTunes song limit? I'd even be willing to pay a premium...

The only workaround at the moment is to setup (and manage) two separate libraries, one for iTunes Match, and the other with your entire collection. There are articles online detailing how to do it. Needless to say, it's not an ideal situation, but it works.

Not only do you get higher quality versions of the songs you ripped from CD's onto your computer... you can also stream any of the songs matched just by double-clicking on a song in your iTunes library.

The same goes for your iPhone... you can stream any song in the iTunes Match cloud AND your playlists are copied over too. It's my entire music library... in the Cloud. It's pretty slick.
