Newest German Apple Store to open Thursday

On Thursday, November 17, Apple will open its eighth retail store in Germany. According to German website, ifun.de, the retail store will be located in the town of Sulzbach. The store's listing has been added to Apple's German website and the error in the graphic that announced the opening date as September 17 instead of November 17 has been corrected.

Sulzbach is an interesting choice for the Cupertino company as the closest Apple retail store is located in nearby Frankfurt. The two stores will be about fifteen miles apart and will cover an area with a relatively small population of 10,000 citizens. Perhaps it's the historic location of the store that attracted Apple to this town. The newest store will be located in the Main-Taunus-Zentrum shopping center which was built 1964 and is one of the first large shopping centers in Germany, says Macerkopf.de. The mall recently underwent an extensive 130,000 square-foot expansion and includes 170 stores.

Good location near the Indutriepark Hochst. We do a lot of business there and it will be nice to have access to an Apple store.

The town of Sulzbach may have about 10.000 citizens, however, the whole Rhein-Main-Area is one of the most densely populated areas in Europe with over 5 million people. The new store lies straight at the highway where tenthousends of commuters pass daily (whereas the Frankfurt store is in the middle of the city with all the parking problems etc). Guess that explains the choice of the location.

It's one of the largest shopping malls in Germany in one of the richest regions of Germany. Lots of millionaires and mansions there. I think that's the reason, not the historic location ;-)

I don't think that Apple would go into a shopping center for nostalgic reasons. The explanation is simple. The Main-Taunus-Zentrum is located in an area which is surrounded by some of the most wealthy cities in Germany, like Kronberg, Königstein or Bad Homburg. And contrary to the US, 15 miles more or less DO make a difference for German consumers. So I guess this was a very straightforward business decision.

The Main-Taunus-Zentrum (Center) is located in the heart of Main-Taunus-Kreis (District) (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main-Taunus-Kreis) which has a population of over 200.000 and is part of the rhine-main metropolitain region with more than 5 mio people.
It's also an area with great buying power, so it's a typical location for Apple.

The city of Sulzbach is quite small, correct. The metropolitan area of Frankfurt (Rhein-Main area) is the third biggest in Germany (aprox. 5.5 million people).
The Main-Taunus shopping center is located directly at the A66 freeway which makes it very well located. Whereas the Apple Store within the city center of Frankfurt is only reachable by foot.
