Apple’s newly announced iPhone 17e brings internal upgrades, but its exterior design remains nearly identical to its predecessor. As a result, many users are asking a practical question: Will an iPhone 16e case fit the new iPhone 17e?
Same Size, Same Design
At first glance, the iPhone 17e looks almost the same as the iPhone 16e. Both models feature a single rear camera in the same position. In addition, the volume buttons, power button, and Action button sit in identical locations.

The notch also remains unchanged in both size and placement. Dimension-wise, both devices measure 146.7 mm tall, 71.5 mm wide, and 7.8 mm thick. Therefore, the physical structure of the two phones matches almost exactly.
The only measurable difference is weight. The iPhone 17e weighs two grams more than the 16e. However, that small increase equals roughly the weight of two paperclips. In everyday use, most people would not notice the difference.
Because of these shared dimensions and design elements, an existing iPhone 16e case should fit the iPhone 17e without issue.
MagSafe Makes the Difference
While the external design stays the same, Apple adds one key feature to the iPhone 17e: MagSafe support. This addition may influence your case choice.
Older iPhone 16e cases will physically fit the new model. However, they may not support MagSafe accessories. If you plan to use MagSafe chargers or attachments, you may prefer a case designed specifically for the iPhone 17e.
New Case Options Available
Apple has introduced new silicone cases for the iPhone 17e. These cases support MagSafe and come in Soft Pink, Bright Guava, Vanilla, Light Moss, Anchor Blue, and Black. Each case costs $49.
Meanwhile, Apple continues to sell iPhone 16e cases for $39. Those options include Neon Yellow, Fuchsia, White, Black, Winter Blue, and Lake Green.
In short, your old case will work. However, if MagSafe matters to you, upgrading your case could make sense.
