Apple has unveiled the finalists for its 2026 Apple Design Awards, putting a spotlight on some of the most creative apps and games in its ecosystem. The announcement arrives just weeks before the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), where the winners will be officially revealed.
Each year, Apple uses the awards to celebrate developers who push the boundaries of design, usability, and innovation. This year’s shortlist includes a mix of indie projects, productivity tools, educational software, and blockbuster games.

Major Games Join Indie Standouts
Some of the biggest attention-grabbers are well-known gaming titles. Cyberpunk 2077: Ultimate Edition earned a nomination in the Visuals and Graphics category, while Civilization VII secured recognition in the Inclusivity category.
However, the finalists are not dominated by major franchises alone. Smaller games such as Blue Prince, Pickle Pro, and TR-49 also made strong appearances, showing Apple’s continued support for diverse developers.
Notably, TR-49 and Sago Mini Jinja’s Garden each received nominations in two separate categories, highlighting their broader appeal.
Six Award Categories Highlight Different Strengths
Apple organised the finalists into six categories: Delight and Fun, Inclusivity, Innovation, Interaction, Social Impact, and Visuals and Graphics. Each category includes three apps and three games.
In the Innovation category, nominees include Detail: AI Video Editor, NBA: Live Games & Scores, and D-Day: The Camera Soldier. Meanwhile, the Social Impact category recognises apps and games designed to improve lives or raise awareness of important issues.
This structure helps Apple reward excellence across different forms of digital creativity rather than focusing only on technical complexity.
VisionOS Still Has a Presence
Although Apple removed its dedicated Spatial Computing category, visionOS projects still remain in contention. Titles such as Pickle Pro and D-Day: The Camera Soldier continue representing Apple’s mixed reality ambitions.
That suggests Apple still values immersive experiences, even without a standalone category.
Winners to Be Announced at WWDC
The final winners will be announced during WWDC 2026, which begins on June 8. Apple will choose one winning app and one winning game from each category.
For developers, the recognition offers prestige. For users, it provides a curated look at some of the best digital experiences currently available on Apple platforms.
