Ironic when you consider they sent that little girl a nasty legal letter when she tried to send in iPod suggestions.

What I think you are failing to see here is the stark contrast at the time between 'Big Blue' and Apple. Also the tie in of the woman at the end is the same one as the 1984 commercial, she was the one that threw the hammer into the screen. The idea being that IBM was such a big company, and an old one, that this was how they viewed their employees and that Apple, the new kid, had a different idea about how people and commerce should run. I like it, it made me think. It was very political and took a shot at other companies, but then again so did the new Intel chip commercials with Kiefer Sutherland. And many thanks to whomever found and posted the video.

#6, I think you have your -ism's mixed up. The advertisement is overtly critical of industrial capitalism. It has little in the way of a critique of "the ending socialist dream". It disheartens me as a Professor of political science and a Mac user to see such posts.

I think this add is focused on french sensitivity.
The social environment, end of heavy industry (steel plant).
The international environment, end of the socialist dream, fall of the Berlin wall.
But in fact doesn't this add tell us more about Apple?

I thought this article was going to be about one of Apples dumbest and most embarrassing Should Be Forgotten ads, the "Even Gramps can use a Mac" infomercial (check groups.google search of Usenet archives for lambasting of same)

I also had this spot in my archive somewhere but without the subtitles. I kinda like it. It's so different.

that was quite the political statement for Apple to be making in 1989... shame we haven't seen any more European ads from this era survive, it'd be nice to see what they were putting out in (West) Germany itself. it feels very German, although its in French, maybe dubbed?

I love this.
