Steve Jobs will not give Apple Expo Paris keynote
Our hearts go out to all the Apple Expo Paris attendees in the audience, for Steve Jobs will not be giving a keynote yet again this year. In fact, there won't be any keynote at all. A show representative confirmed this keynote-less announcement with Macworld UK, citing that, while Apple has seen "significant" market share gains in France lately, they also mention the whole 'open up your FairPlay, or else' issue the French government is trying to force on Apple. That doesn't seem like a very good reason for Jobs to stop delivering his theatrical keynotes, though he was having surgery during 2004's paris expo, and for some odd reason didn't give a keynote at '05's Expo either. I guess the closest you'll be able to get to Mr. Jobs this time around is some hi-res desktop wallpapers.

I just think that Steve doesn't want to do those keynotes anymore. I'm sure they are a boatload of work and cost a fortune. I also think he is slowly working his way toward retirement. If he slowly fades out of the keynotes, to the point where he doesn't do them at all, there wont be a huge void in them when he decides to step down.

damn and bugger!!!
Does this mean no new products?!?.. maybe just a few updates to the imac and the macbook pro.
iTunes movies, iphone, nano update to feature in a special event?
This does add credibility to the "Steve Jobs is ill" parade...

Hopefully the bloggers (not here) who led that parade will note that he didn't do the keynote last year either (the year after his health problems) but it had nothing to do with his health. There was simply nothing to merit a keynote presentation. A Jobs keynote has the industry on the edge of their seats waiting for new product. Simple enough explanation... no major product announcement, no Steve Jobs. He's not going to spend two hours on stage in Paris repeating old news.

does this lend any support to the theory that he is very ill?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this not the first sign of the end of the world as we know it?

It depends on what cancer Steve has / had? Some cancer treatments will not allow people to travel or go abroad despite how wealthy and insured they are. However, looking at the recent keynote I would actually agree that Steve Jobs is ill / battling an agressive form of cancer, though having a good day when he appeared on stage this month - it happens with cancer patients - they rally.
I would estimate if he is battling an agrressive form of cancer - 12 / 18 months. I have been there and seen it...

We don't know if he's sick. We can think that he is from watching the keynote at WWDC, but there are often times when I'll look sick but I'm not. He didn't do a keynote last year at Paris. It's probably a bit costly to do one over there. Just deal with it. There'll be updated products.

But does that mean there won't be any new products? Or, even without keynote, there might be some new cool stuff?

With all the drama the French are causing for him over there, he shouldn't go...
