Steve Jobs to kick off WWDC

File this one under, 'We knew this, but it is nice to be sure.' Apple today announced that Steve Jobs, the CEO we all know and love, will be kicking off the World Wide Developer Conference (WWDC to those in the know) this year. The Stevenote begins promptly at 10am (Pacific) on June 11th and will showcase a 'feature complete Leopard.' Developers will also get a beta copy of Leopard to take home with them.

But what about a desktop? I'm so close to ordering an iMac, but I know there's a risk a new one will be announced soonish.

If a product launch timing suited WWDC they would be every reason to expect the keynote to announce it. The Mac Pro was announced at WWDC 2006 last year.

Admittedly, that was a machine that was very appealing to developers, but so would be any Santa Rosa based laptop.

However, I'd expect at least one new laptop to be announced earlier, probably mid-May.

Because of Intel's new Santa Rosa chipset/platform, I expect that there will be an update on Apple's notebooks in the next two months, but it will probably not be announced at WWDC.

I'm planning on buying a MacBook in the short future, but I'm worried that apple will backtrack on the WWDC for developer's only talk and announce new laptops there. Is this a founded worry, or should I just bite the bullet and make the purchase?

Phillip beet me to this... getting a feature complete build is not something special for only WWDC. Sure they might be in nice box or something but not too big of a deal. Show me a free iPhone to "develop" for ;)

Additionally, it's been confirmed by my school's Apple representative that the feature-complete version of Leopard will be available for download to paid-level developer's on Apple's website.
