Office Snapshots goes inside Apple's Cupertino offices

And they found ... not that much. There's something not-quite-right about these snapshots purportedly from inside Apple's Cupertino campus. They look like they come from almost anywhere -- despite the plentiful Apple products (and one notable Microsoft natural keyboard), there's no major signs of genius -- no "the crazy ones" posters, iTablet prototypes lying around, or "how to act around His Steveness" employee pamphlets. Could it be that the people who work at Apple are, strangely enough, just like us?

No, surely not. These pictures are also a bit out of date, we're told, as rumor has it that the front lobby always shows off the new products, not the old iMacs. So clearly these snaps are from the late '90s, when the rest of us were using beige boxes and OS 9 to compute, and only Apple employees had the luxury of using thin keyboards and horizontal LCDs gone vertical (madness!) in their super-futuristic office space. There: our worldview is back to normal. As normal as it gets, anyway.

Thanks, Steve!

I spy a 12" PowerBook! Apple even knows it's the best!

And don't even start with the "MacBook Air fits the bill". We want power!

Woah! look at the bottom left picture -- is that a prototype wireless keyboard sitting on the binders?

The musical keyboard appears to be a Korg Kontrol49, which was originally announced during the 2005 NAMM show.

Oh, also, they do have a bunch of the "Think Different" campaign posters plastered around the cafeteria. And funny enough, they also have several of the "large iPhone displays" set up (like the ones in the windows at the Apple stores). Seems like a great work environment down there. I hope I get my job!

So I was all ready to hop on and comment about how fake these photos were, because I was just on the Apple campus a few weeks ago. I don't understand how someone would have gotten these pictures, since when I was there someone even reached for their camera bag and security was on them like a fat kid on cake! But, I will say that the pictures must be real because the front desk, and then cafeteria pictures look authentic. The courtyard picture is hard to tell because it's such a narrow shot. I can't speak about the offices though.

Pretty impressive! Wish I could have taken pictures when I was there, especially since Steve Jobs sat down next to us and had lunch. I was like a kid in a candy store, I couldn't believe I was that close to him, but couldn't take a stupid picture to prove it!

I was down there for some meetings in January and I seem to recall that the front desk sign in the machines (the two iMacs at the front that you type your name into to get a badge) had been updated to the current-gen iMac with the slim keyboards.

"despite the plentiful Apple products (and one notable Microsoft natural keyboard)"

No matter how much of a fanboy you are, you have to use what works best for you.

Sub-woofer(??) next to the Mac Pro?

My Logitech Z-5500 subwoofer is not shielded.

That speaker & subwoofer setup is the Blue Sky 'Mediadesk' system. I have the exact same setup hooked up to my G5 tower. It's not going to harm his Mac Pro. It's very well-made and shielded.

George Lucas' crew uses Blue Sky stuff as well.

yeah, I spy a mighty mouse, iMac G5's, a PowerMac G5, a couple MacBook Pros. I'd say that puts us squarely in 2005ish time.
