First pics of the Boston Apple Store
Our Boston-based buddy, Chad Barraford, sent us in some pics of Apple's new Boylston Street store. Located across the street from The Prudential Center in Boston's upscale Back Bay, this will be the ninth store located in Massachusetts. Apple didn't just create a bland façade to cover the construction, they made it look like Fenway Park's "Green Monster." Now that this is starting to sound like a real estate sales pitch, let's show you some pictures.
Thanks, Chad!

I heard someone buried A-Rod's socks in there during construction -- which would be the one redeeming factor to any green monster constructed in the state. People must be wicked-excited.
Go Yankees. Boo, Apple. XXOO, NY.

They are building a new Yankee stadium in NY. During construction, a "worker" dropped a Boston player's jersey into the foundation. NY dug it up and sold it online for a cancer benefit.
Being from NY, I was just being a prick about it in the spirt of our ongoing rivalry.

Hey you Yankee "fan." How's about you go boo Derek Jeter, like you great "fans" did at the beginning of last year. Great job, great job, boo your team captain, your most consistent player, because he has a bad start. Yankee fans are the worst in the world.
Love the Green Monster marketing. Brilliant for Boston.
Go Sox. Go Apple. Boo Yankees (although I don't need to do that, they do it themselves)

Looks to me like nothing more than sheets of plywood covering up the real thing.

That is obviously temporary, and used for marketing. There is no way the local Design and Preservation Committee would allow something that ugly in that neighborhood.

Ugly? That is modeled after the Green Monster in Fenway Park!
It's a thing of beauty!

Yeah, I was kind of sick of the long trip to a ghetto mall - it'll be nice to have a more central location.

Ghetto mall? If you think the Cambridgeside Galleria is "ghetto" you need to move back to Connecticut. Oh, and I kinda like the fact that there's an Apple store there because it gives me someplace to go when the gf's clothes shopping.
That said, though, Boston's needed a flagship store for quite some time now. Can't wait until it opens :).

so typical of a white person to say.
the cambridgeside galleria is upscale and in a very rich city. why do you classify it as ghetto?

I walk by the store all the time. I always try to get a peek past the doors so I can see what's going on inside. Last time I walked by they were working on putting together the glass staircase in the middle of the store. They were taking huge pieces of glass out of boxes on the street and carrying them inside the store. The staircase looks very much like the one at NYC 5th Ave.
How early do people arrive to "camp out" before the opening of a store? I really want to go!!

I walked by thursday and there was still all the construction equipment in front of it, but the entire front wall of the store appears to be glass. Also, I remember hearing before it was supposed to be going all the way through to Newbury st but theres a ally in between so I doubt thats gonna happen

This is a fantastic nod to how Fenway is ingrained into all of Boston's DNA - have there been any other instances of Apple paying such strong tribute to regional ties with their store openings?
I can't recall anything as regionally specific as this from Apple's store openings - am I right in thinking so, or have there been other examples?
