Apple's worst logo ever?
I'm eager to test out Apple's upcoming MobileMe service, the .Mac replacement scheduled to launch in a few weeks. Unfortunately for many, my enthusiasm is matched by disdain for the MobileMe logo.Gawker says "...it should be on a package of Japanese soap." Paul Thurrott notices a similarity between MobileMe and Microsoft WindowsME and Manhattan Offender asks flat-out: "Is 'MobileMe' the worst logo in the history of Mac?"
First of all, Manhattan Offender, Apple is the company that produced MobileMe and its graphic representation, not "Mac."
Remember, Apple is pushing this (get it?) as "Exchange for the rest of us." It's not a corporate product, but a consumer service with corporate-like features. We think the logo is airy and fun.
What's your take? Decent enough or utter garbage?

it seems Snow Leopard will use the translucent style.

It is as if Apple made the Mobile Me logo specifically for all of their users under the age of 16, and thus ignored the huge population of older, more sophisticated Apple followers. Apple has very successfully carved a niche as the supplier of creative, and innovative products. In the past, they've done a great job of artfully generating icons that are effective, sometimes cute, and functional. This icon is just odd and reminds me of an infant's mobile hanging above a crib. It's way too busy and it doesn't work for me. That being said, I am a longtime Apple fan, Mac user and will be for years to come.... bad logos and all!

This I think it does well. If it actually becomes one of the products that people buy with their new macs (which will depend in no small part on apple's in-store employee marketing of it), and more importantly, a product that these people, and the rest of us, decide is worth keeping after the first year, then I think it will be known diffrently than MobileMe. It is the me.com domain, so either "eM-eE" or "dotME" would be a likely shorthand, or even "M&M", "double-M", etc.... It just may turn out that the name is good for marketing, and that alone, and the always creative mac consumer base will call it something better.

Though, I really dislike the Pages logo ('08 in my case). In a small state, the logo is barely recognisable, especially from a distance. The glow and lighting effects on the glass of the inkpot doesn't make it any better either.

I mean come on guys it's the 20th Century people are comfortable with servers and internet connectivity to the point that we don't need it dumbed down to fluffy clouds and pastel colours
