Apple to open first retail store in Australia on Thursday
We're sure that our friends down under have been wondering where is all the Apple love for Australia. Well, they can stop the sorrow and feel the joy as Apple is set to open it's first Australia Apple Store on Thursday, June 19. The store in question will be located in Sydney and will feature the "world's largest Genius Bar" according to a recent Apple press release (see, that's what you get for waiting so long). Apple also notes that the store will accommodate over 80 Macs and 60 iPods (talk about Apple goodness). The Apple store in Sydney will open at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday June 19. The Apple Store Sydney is located at 367 George Street, one block North of the Queen Victoria Building.

I can't believe that the store will open more than a week after iPhone 3G comes out. That just doesn't make sense......they could simoultaneously open the store and launch the new iPhone the same day which would attract alot more media attention. Hmmm...........

This could mean two things:
1. There are a lot of genius' in Australia
or
2. In order to reach the required level of genius, we need more people than usual in our Australia operations.
I'm betting on #2 :P
Jack, you may be thinking of MyMac on Flinders St, Melbourne. They're one of a few of Australia's Apple resellers.
The resellers usually do a great job, offering a very 'Apple' experience, with lots of staff, big areas to browse, and Apple-esque decor.
I'm fairly sure I've been in an Apple Store in Melbourne. Just down from one of the main train stations?
I may be wrong but it had a big Apple logo outside and only sold apple gear.
It annoys me that TUAW are praising Apple for this. We've been forced to deal with high prices and bad resellers for years. We are always neglected with iTunes, warranties etc. We didn't even get the 1st gen iPhone!
If you ask me, Apple are blowing it in Australia. It's halfway through 2008 and they're just getting around to opening one Apple store in Sydney... Come on TAUW, grow some balls.
